Enchantment — Aura

LegalCard DrawRank #597

Enchant creature

Whenever enchanted creature deals damage to an opponent, you may draw a card.

Why is this card good?

Curiosity is a cheap card-draw engine that ranges from "fine value" to "I win the game" depending on your shell. The famous combo: enchant Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind (or Niv-Mizzet, Parun). Niv pings a creature/player when you draw; Curiosity draws when Niv deals damage — that loops infinitely, dealing lethal to the whole table. Curiosity is a one-mana win condition in those decks, and similar pairings exist (Tandem Lookout/Ophidian Eye are redundant copies). Outside the combo, it's a budget draw enabler for spellslinger/Izzet "value" decks built around an unblockable or evasive commander you want to attack with repeatedly. It triggers off any damage to an opponent, so it pairs well with low-cost evasive threats or hexproof/shroud creatures you can safely invest in. Skip it if your creature lacks evasion — a chump-blocked attacker draws you nothing, and an Aura on a removable body is card disadvantage. It's only worth a slot when you've got a reliable damage outlet or the Niv package to abuse it.

Curiosity doesn't trigger if the enchanted creature deals damage to a planeswalker or to a battle.

  • 2023-09-01

You draw one card each time the enchanted creature deals damage to an opponent, no matter how much damage it deals.

  • 2023-09-01

If you control Curiosity and it's enchanting an opponent's creature, you won't draw a card when that creature deals damage to you. The creature has to deal damage to one of your opponents for the ability to trigger.

  • 2011-09-22

"You" refers to the controller of Curiosity, which may be different from the controller of the enchanted creature. "An opponent" refers to an opponent of Curiosity's controller.

  • 2011-09-22

Any damage dealt by the enchanted creature to an opponent will cause Curiosity to trigger, not just combat damage.
