Fortified Village

Land

LegalRank #342

As this land enters, you may reveal a Forest or Plains card from your hand. If you don't, this land enters tapped.

{T}: Add {G} or {W}.

Why is this card good?

Fortified Village is premium fixing for any GW (Selesnya) deck, sitting at #342 on EDHREC for good reason. The "reveal a Forest or Plains" clause means it usually enters untapped in two-color decks, especially if you run a healthy basic land count or dual-typed lands like Temple Garden or Canopy Vista. That conditional untapped tempo is what separates it from a plain tapland. It's a near-auto-include in dedicated Selesnya decks — tokens (Trostani), counters/+1+1 (Ghave, Hamza), enchantress, or any midrange GW build where consistent on-curve mana matters. When to skip it: - Three+ color decks where your basics are too few to reliably reveal a Forest/Plains — it'll often enter tapped, making a Temple or triome better. - Hyper-fast combo or cEDH lists that want untapped, fetchable, or shockland-style duals instead. In a focused two-color manabase, though, it's one of the best budget-friendly nonland-cost duals you can run.
