Why is this card good?
Gloomlake Verge is part of the "Verge" cycle from Duskmourn, and it's a quietly excellent dual land for two-color Dimir decks. Untapped duals that produce both your colors are always premium in Commander, where consistency and tempo matter, and this one rarely whiffs.
The catch — needing an Island or Swamp to make black — is far easier to satisfy than it looks. Basic lands, Swamp/Island typed duals (shocks, fetch targets, Watery Grave, etc.), and snow basics all enable it. In a two-color deck with a healthy basic count or a fetch package, this comes into play untapped and casts spells of both colors turn one.
Play it in any UB deck: control, mill, reanimator, theft/Dimir spellslinger, or aristocrats with a black/blue lean.
When NOT to play it: heavily three-plus-color manabases that run few typed sources, or budget builds running mostly basics of off-types. If you can't reliably control an Island or Swamp, it's effectively a tapland for black — but that's rare in dedicated Dimir.
