Why is this card good?
Graven Cairns is a premium dual land for any Rakdos-color deck, and it's an auto-include in most B/R-containing manabases. The key feature is its filtering ability: pay one colored mana to get two of your colors. This means it fixes for double-pips far better than a basic, and it enters untapped with no life loss.
The catch — and it's important — is that it can't fix your colors from nothing. You need an existing colored source to use the filter ability; otherwise it's just a colorless tap-land equivalent. So it shines in established manabases but is awkward as your only early colored source. That's a minor downside given how cheap and painless it is.
Play it in essentially any Rakdos, Jund, Mardu, Grixis, or other B/R-inclusive deck where consistent double-black or double-red costs matter — aggressive Rakdos commanders, aristocrats, or spellslinger builds especially. There's almost no reason to skip it unless you're on an extreme budget and have better fixing elsewhere.
