Green Sun's Zenith

{X}{G}

Sorcery

LegalRank #549

Search your library for a green creature card with mana value X or less, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle. Shuffle Green Sun's Zenith into its owner's library.

Why is this card good?

Green Sun's Zenith is one of the best green tutors in Commander because it cheats on card economy: it grabs and puts the creature directly onto the battlefield, then shuffles itself back in, so it's effectively a reusable tutor that never clogs your hand. The key trick is running Dryad Arbor, a green creature land — with X=0, GSZ becomes a one-mana Rampant Growth that ramps you on turn one. Beyond that, it scales into the late game, fetching anything from mana dorks early to bombs like Craterhost Behemoth or a silver-bullet hate creature when you need it. Decks that want it: - Green mana-ramp / midrange piles wanting flexible toolbox tutoring - Combo decks fetching pieces (Yisan, Selvala, elf combos) - Stax/hatebears grabbing the right answer creature Skip it if your deck is light on green creatures or your green creatures aren't worth tutoring — without strong targets it's just a worse, more expensive Cultivate. It rewards a curated, creature-heavy toolbox.

    If Green Sun's Zenith is countered, none of its effects will happen. Notably, it will be put into its owner's graveyard rather than shuffled into its owner's library.

    In most cases, if you own Green Sun's Zenith and cast it, you'll shuffle your library twice. In practice, shuffling once is sufficient, but effects that care about you shuffling your library (like Psychogenic Probe, for example) will see that you've shuffled twice.

    If you own Green Sun's Zenith, but an opponent casts it (due to Knowledge Pool's effect, for example), that opponent searches their library for an appropriate creature card, then shuffles that library. That opponent then shuffles Green Sun's Zenith into your library. You won't shuffle any library in this case.

    If this spell doesn't resolve, none of its effects occur. In particular, it will go to the graveyard rather than to its owner's library.
