Leyline of Anticipation

{2}{U}{U}

Enchantment

LegalRank #700

If this card is in your opening hand, you may begin the game with it on the battlefield.

You may cast spells as though they had flash.

Why is this card good?

Leyline of Anticipation turns your whole deck into instant-speed plays, which is more powerful in Commander than it looks on paper. The real payoff is information and reactivity. You hold up interaction, then dump your hand on the end step before your turn — developing your board while your opponents have already passed priority, and only committing threats when you know they're safe. It also lets you cast creatures, planeswalkers, and artifacts in response to wraths or removal, dodging sorcery-speed sweepers entirely. Wants it: blue control and tempo decks, spellslinger/flash builds, and anything with flash payoffs (Yeva, Vivien commanders, ambush-style decks). The Leyline clause means a free turn-zero drop, which is huge in fast pods. Skip it if: you're not built to exploit it — handing yourself "flash" does nothing if you tap out on your own turn anyway, or if your deck is proactive aggro/combo that races rather than reacts. It's also a do-nothing card on its own, so low-interaction tables won't reward it.

    A player's "opening hand" is the hand of cards the player has after all players have taken mulligans. If players have any cards in hand that allow actions to be taken with them from a player's opening hand, the starting player takes all such actions first in any order, followed by each other player in turn order. Then the first turn begins.
