Why is this card good?

Mossborn Hydra is an explosive payoff that turns landfall into one of the fastest clocks in green. Because it doubles its counters every landfall, a single Cultivate or fetch-style sequence can push it from 1 to 4 to 8 in one turn. Drop a couple extra lands and you're swinging for 16+ with trample by turn four or five. The decks that want it are obvious: landfall/lands-matter builds led by Aesi, Tatyova, Omnath, or Lord Windgrace. It loves extra-land effects (Exploration, Azusa, Burgeoning) and land-bounce loops (Retreat to Coralhelm, Ramunap Excavator). Pair it with double-strike or a Fling-style finisher to one-shot opponents. The catch: it's a fragile three-drop with no protection. Any removal, bounce, or chump block wastes your whole setup, and it does nothing the turn it lands. Don't run it in decks that aren't actively chaining lands every turn — without consistent landfall it's a vanilla 2/2-ish beater. Best as a backup wincon, not your primary plan.

To double the number of +1/+1 counters on Mossborn Hydra, put a number of +1/+1 counters on it equal to the number it already has. Other cards that interact with putting counters on it will interact with this effect accordingly.

If Mossborn Hydra somehow enters at the same time as one or more other lands you control, its last ability triggers for each of those lands.

  • 2024-11-08

A landfall ability triggers whenever a land you control enters for any reason. It triggers whenever you play a land, as well as whenever a spell or ability puts a land onto the battlefield under your control.

  • 2024-11-08

A landfall ability doesn't trigger if a permanent already on the battlefield becomes a land.

  • 2024-11-08

Whenever a land you control enters, each landfall ability of the permanents you control will trigger. You can put them   on the stack in any order. The last ability you put on the stack will be the first one to resolve (As a result, you can have those abilities resolve in the order of your choosing.).
