Why is this card good?
Ruinous Ultimatum is one of the most devastating board wipes in the format — it destroys everything your opponents own except lands, while leaving your own board completely intact. In a multiplayer game, that's a one-sided asymmetry that can simply end the game on the spot.
The catch is the `RRWWWBBB`-adjacent cost: triple-white, double-red, double-black with zero generic. That punishing color requirement means you essentially need a dedicated Mardu deck with strong fixing to ever cast it on curve.
Who wants it: Mardu midrange and control decks built around commanders like Kenrith, Queen Marchesa, or any grindy BRW shell that wants to reset opponents and rebuild from a protected position. It's especially brutal in superfriends or stax lists where your permanents are lands/planeswalkers.
When to skip it: Token, aristocrats, or go-wide decks that flood their own board — you can't sweep one-sided here, but you also don't want to be the deck that needs the reset. Avoid in two-color or fixing-light builds; you'll dead-draw it constantly.
