Why is this card good?

Seat of the Synod is a Tapped... no, untapped land that taps for blue while also counting as an artifact. That artifact typing is the entire point — this is a build-around enabler, not a mana fixer. Why it's good: In decks that care about artifacts, a free artifact "land" is excellent. It boosts Affinity costs, fuels metalcraft, pumps Urza, Lord High Artificer, gets sacrificed to artifact-matters payoffs, and counts toward improvise. It's essentially a land that triggers your synergies for zero opportunity cost on mana. Who wants it: Mono-blue or blue artifact commanders — Urza, Emry, Lord of the Trips, Sai, Master Thopterist, Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain, and any cEDH artifact storm/combo shell. Anything with metalcraft, affinity, or "sacrifice an artifact" wants this in the deck. When NOT to play it: It's downside is being an artifact in non-artifact decks — vulnerable to Vandalblast, Bane of Progress, and artifact wipes that don't normally hit your lands. If you're not actively rewarding the artifact type, just run a basic Island instead.
