Shifting Woodland

Land

LegalRank #365

This land enters tapped unless you control a Forest.

Delirium — {2}{G}{G}: This land becomes a copy of target permanent card in your graveyard until end of turn. Activate only if there are four or more card types among cards in your graveyard.

KeywordsDelirium

Why is this card good?

Shifting Woodland is a land that quietly doubles as a recursion engine, and that flexibility is what makes it so strong in green-based Commander decks. The key is the copy ability: with delirium online, you can turn this land into any permanent card in your graveyard for the turn. That means re-using a dead planeswalker, copying a bomb creature, or — most powerfully — copying a graveyard creature and sacrificing or tapping it for value. It's a colorless slot in your manabase that becomes inevitability, untouched by counterspells when it's just sitting there as a Forest. It shines in self-mill, graveyard-matters, and value-grind decks — anything running [[Titania]], reanimator shells, or +1/+1 counter/landfall builds that naturally fill the yard with creatures, artifacts, enchantments, and lands. Don't run it in fast combo or aggressive decks that don't fill the graveyard — delirium can be hard to hit, the four-mana activation is steep, and it enters tapped early. It's a grindy-game card, not a tempo one.

You must already control a Forest as Shifting Woodland enters the battlefield for it to enter untapped. If it enters the battlefield at the same time as a Forest when you control no other Forests, it will enter tapped.

  • 2024-06-07

Shifting Woodland copies exactly what was printed on the original card and nothing else. It doesn't copy any information about the object the card was before it was put into your graveyard.

  • 2024-06-07

Any effects that applied to Shifting Woodland before it becomes a copy of another card will continue to apply after it becomes a copy. The same is true of any counters that are on Shifting Woodland.

  • 2024-06-07

If a card in your graveyard has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.

  • 2024-06-07

Because Shifting Woodland isn't entering the battlefield when it becomes a copy of a card, any "When [this creature] enters the battlefield" or "[This creature] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the copied card won't apply.
