Why is this card good?
Sylvan Safekeeper is one of green's premier protection pieces, and the free activation cost (sacrificing a land, no mana required) is what makes it elite. In a format full of targeted removal, edicts notwithstanding, being able to instantly fog your commander or a key creature against a single removal spell — repeatedly — is enormous, especially at instant speed during anyone's turn.
It shines brightest in decks built around a fragile, high-value creature: voltron commanders (Uril, Rafiq, Yargle), combo pieces, or anything you simply can't afford to lose. It also synergizes with landfall and land-sacrifice payoffs (Titania, Lord Windgrace, Gitrog), turning protection into card advantage or value triggers.
The cost is the catch: you're shredding your mana base. Each activation costs a land, so it's better as a one-time emergency button than a turn-after-turn shield. Skip it in decks with no must-protect target, in heavy ramp-reliant builds, or where you'd rather run Heroic Intervention for blanket protection.
