Why is this card good?

Temple of Malice is a solid, unspectacular dual land for any Rakdos (B/R) deck. The scry 1 on entry is genuinely useful — it smooths early draws, helps you find a land or your commander, and adds up over a long game. It's a "free" bit of card selection stapled onto a land that produces both your colors. The catch is it enters tapped. In Commander, where games run long and your opening turns are often setup anyway, that downside is minimal — but it does matter in faster, more competitive Rakdos lists (sacrifice/aristocrats, spellslinger, or aggressive Anje/Judith builds) where tempo is at a premium. Play it in casual-to-midrange Rakdos decks that value consistency and don't mind a tapland. Skip it in optimized/cEDH builds running fast mana and untapped duals (Blood Crypt, Sulfurous Springs, fetches), where you can't afford to fall a turn behind. It's a budget-friendly filler dual, not a premium one.

When you scry, you may put all the cards you look at back on top of your library, you may put all of those cards on the bottom of your library, or you may put some of those cards on top and the rest of them on the bottom.

  • 2013-09-15

You choose how to order cards returned to your library after scrying no matter where you put them.

  • 2013-09-15

You perform the actions stated on a card in sequence. For some spells and abilities, that means you'll scry last. For others, that means you'll scry and then perform other actions.

  • 2013-09-15

Scry appears on some spells and abilities with one or more targets. If all of the spell or ability's targets are illegal when it tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. You won't scry.
