Why is this card good?

Temple of Mystery is a clean, low-opportunity-cost dual land for any Simic (GU) deck. The scry 1 on entry is small but real value — smoothing your draws and helping you bin a flooded land or dig toward a key piece. Over a long Commander game, that incremental selection adds up. It belongs in basically any two-or-more-color deck running green and blue: ramp/big-mana builds, +1/+1 counters, landfall, or value-engine decks like Kinnan, Tatyova, or Aesi. It's an unconditional dual that always taps for the right colors, which matters in greedy or color-intensive manabases. The only downside is that it enters tapped. In fast, low-curve decks — cEDH, aggressive combo, or anything wanting untapped turn-one plays — that tempo loss can be a real liability, and you'd prefer untapped duals or fetch/shock options. In those builds, skip it; otherwise it's a near-default include for casual-to-mid-power Simic decks where a single tapped land rarely costs you the game.

When you scry, you may put all the cards you look at back on top of your library, you may put all of those cards on the bottom of your library, or you may put some of those cards on top and the rest of them on the bottom.

  • 2013-09-15

You choose how to order cards returned to your library after scrying no matter where you put them.

  • 2013-09-15

You perform the actions stated on a card in sequence. For some spells and abilities, that means you'll scry last. For others, that means you'll scry and then perform other actions.

  • 2013-09-15

Scry appears on some spells and abilities with one or more targets. If all of the spell or ability's targets are illegal when it tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. You won't scry.
