Why is this card good?
The Reaver Cleaver is a ramp engine disguised as an aggro Equipment. The Treasure clause scales with damage dealt, so it rewards big trampling beaters — connect for 8, get 8 Treasures. That's absurd acceleration that lets you double-spell, cast hidden commanders, or fuel ramp into haymakers, all off one combat step.
Where it shines:
- Big-creature red/Gruul commanders that hit hard: think Klothys, Xenagos, or any voltron/Timmy build.
- Treasure-matters decks (Prosper, Goldspan Dragon-style payoffs) where the tokens are both ramp and triggers.
- Anything that can grant evasion or pile on +X/+X — the bigger the swing, the bigger the payoff.
Trample is key here: it ensures damage gets through even into a blocker, so the Treasures keep flowing.
Don't play it in decks built around small or wide token boards — one 2/2 makes two Treasures, which is mediocre. It also does nothing if your creature can't reliably connect, so skip it in go-wide or non-combat strategies.
