Why is this card good?
Thought Monitor is a payoff and enabler rolled into one: in a dense artifact deck, affinity routinely drops it to or 
, giving you a flying body plus two cards. That's an efficient rate, and crucially it triggers any "draw" or ETB-matters synergies you're running.
Where it shines:
- Artifact-heavy blue decks — Urza, Lord of Mysteries; Sai, Master Thopterist; Emry, Lurker of the Loch — where you'll consistently have 6+ artifacts in play.
- Affinity/Thopter token shells that flood the board and want cheap, repeatable card advantage.
- Decks with blink or recursion (it's an artifact and a creature, so it dodges nothing but enables both).
When to skip it:
- Any deck without a real artifact count. At full price it's a 2/2 flier that draws two cards for seven mana — embarrassing.
- Spellslinger or low-artifact control decks; you have strictly better card draw at that cost.
