Why is this card good?
Underground Mortuary is a quietly excellent fixing land for two-color Golgari decks and any BG-inclusive identity.
The key is the dual typing: it's a Swamp Forest, so it fetches off Verdant Catacombs, Bayou-fetching duals, Farseek, Ramp that grabs basic types, etc. That makes it slot into ramp toolboxes seamlessly, not just as a vanilla dual. The surveil 1 on entry is gravy, but in Golgari it's real gravy — you're filtering toward graveyard payoffs and smoothing draws.
Wants it:
- Golgari graveyard/reanimator decks (surveil enables your gameplan)
- Aristocrats and self-mill shells where filling the yard matters
- Any BG ramp deck leaning on fetchlands and type-matters effects
When to skip it: It enters tapped, which is a genuine cost in fast, low-curve or cEDH builds where tempo is king. If you're not exploiting the surveil or the dual typing, an untapped option is simply better.
For most casual-to-mid Golgari piles, though, this is a clean include.
