Why is this card good?
Vanquisher's Banner is the premier card-advantage anthem for tribal decks. The +1/+1 is nice, but you're playing this for the cantrip — every on-type creature you cast refunds you a card, which compounds hard in go-wide tribal lists that flood the board.
Who wants it: Any dedicated tribal commander — Edgar Markov (Vampires), Najeela (Warriors), Wilhelt (Zombies), elf decks, Sliver decks, Dragon decks like The Ur-Dragon. The more creatures of one type you run, the better this gets. It's colorless, so it slots into literally any tribal deck regardless of colors.
The catch: Five mana with no immediate board impact. It does nothing the turn it lands and gives no value until you start casting more creatures, so it's weak when drawn late or behind. It also locks you into one type, so it's bad in decks with mixed creature bases.
Skip it in low-creature-count decks, spellslinger, or any list that isn't tightly tribal — the draw payoff just won't fire enough.
