Why is this card good?
Wrath of God is the gold standard of board wipes, and it earns its slot in nearly every white deck that isn't hyper-aggressive.
The four-mana symmetrical sweeper is a Commander staple because it answers what white struggles with otherwise: opposing go-wide token armies, voltron threats, and explosive aggro starts. The "can't be regenerated" clause matters more than people think — it dodges classic protection like Troll Ascetic effects. It's clean, cheap, and instantly resets a runaway boardstate.
Who wants it: control decks, stax shells, lifegain/attrition strategies, and any midrange white deck that wins late. It pairs beautifully with planeswalkers, sweep-proof commanders, and enchantress builds that don't commit creatures.
When NOT to play it: if you're the aggressor. Tokens, aristocrats (mostly), and creature-heavy decks usually run asymmetric wraths like Toxic Deluge or Blasphemous Act with hexproof payoffs, or skip wipes entirely. Don't wrath away your own winning board — that's just helping the table.
If your deck wants to fall behind on creatures and stabilize, run it. Otherwise, reconsider.
