The Commander

Flying (This creature can't be blocked except by creatures with flying or reach.)

Vigilance (Attacking doesn't cause this creature to tap.)

Other creatures you control have vigilance.

Guide

Gameplan

Aang is a mono-white go-wide commander who turns your board into a relentless attacking force that never lowers its guard. Build a wide army of creatures, swing every turn with team-wide vigilance so you keep blockers up, and finish with anthems, mass pumps, or overrun-style effects. Aang himself is an evasive flier that chips in damage while supporting the team.

Strengths

  • Team-wide vigilance lets you attack aggressively without sacrificing defense, dodging the usual punishment for tapping out.
  • Evasive flying body that pressures opponents and works well with equipment or auras.
  • Mono-white access to the format's best anthems, board wipes you can recover from, and token producers.
  • Vigilance synergizes beautifully with tap-to-activate creatures and 'whenever a creature attacks' effects.

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white struggles with card draw and ramp compared to other colors.
  • Highly dependent on the board state; sweepers reset your go-wide plan.
  • Aang offers no card advantage or evasion to the rest of the team beyond vigilance.
  • Vulnerable to fliers and flyer-heavy defenses since most white tokens are grounded.

Key Cards

  • Heliod, Sun-Crowned — Lifegain payoff and indestructible god that pumps your team while you attack and hold the line.
  • Smothering Tithe — Solves mono-white's mana and resource problems, fueling your go-wide engine.
  • Elspeth, Sun's Champion — Floods the board with tokens and provides a board-wide anthem finisher.
  • Skullclamp — Best card-draw engine in mono-white, turning expendable tokens into a steady stream of cards.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Each token entering pumps your whole vigilant army into a lethal threat.
  • Adriana, Captain of the Guard — Battle cry-style team buff that rewards attacking with a wide board.

Upgrade Path

Add fast white ramp and fixing like Smothering Tithe, Land Tax, and mana rocks to overcome the color's slow starts, plus card-advantage engines such as Welcoming Vampire and Mentor of the Meek. Lean into scalable finishers (Cathars' Crusade, Triumph of the Hordes, Approach of the Second Sun) and protect your board with Flawless Maneuver and Heroic Intervention. Tighten the curve toward efficient token makers so you can rebuild quickly after sweepers.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrunning the table with an anthem-pumped wide token board.
  • ▸Repeated commander damage from a suited-up evasive Aang.
  • ▸Mass pump effects like Overwhelming Stampede or Triumph of the Hordes for a single lethal swing.
  • ▸Grinding out value with Skullclamp and recurring token engines until you outclass the board.

Archetypes

  • Tokens / Go-Wide — Vigilance lets a wide token army attack and block simultaneously, maximizing pressure and safety.
  • Aggro — Aang and his team can swing every turn without leaving you defenseless to crackback.
  • Voltron — An evasive vigilant flier is a fine target for equipment and auras to deal commander damage while staying back.
  • Tap-Matters — Vigilance frees attacking creatures to still use tap abilities, enabling convoke and crew shenanigans.
