BuildCard details

The Commander

{B}{R}{G}, {T}: Return target creature card from your graveyard to your hand.

Guide

Gameplan

Use Adun as a repeatable graveyard-to-hand engine, leaning on sacrifice outlets, recursion, and value creatures to grind out long games. Fill the yard, then recur threats and utility creatures each turn while the table runs out of resources. Close with reusable aristocrats damage or an inevitable army you keep rebuilding.

Strengths

  • Repeatable creature recursion gives massive card advantage and resilience to removal and board wipes
  • Jund colors offer the best removal, ramp, and sacrifice payoffs in the format
  • Cheap, easy to recast commander that immediately generates value
  • Synergizes with self-mill and reanimation to abuse high-value creatures

Weaknesses

  • Adun's ability requires three colors of mana plus a tap, so it's slow without ramp
  • Returns to hand, not the battlefield, so you still must pay to recast threats
  • Tapping for one card per turn can be too durdly against fast combo decks
  • Graveyard hate shuts the engine off hard
  • Heavy color requirements strain a three-color mana base

Key Cards

  • Viscera Seer — Free sacrifice outlet to loop creatures with Adun and dig through your deck.
  • Mayhem Devil — Turns every sacrifice and recursion loop into direct damage as a wincon.
  • Birgi, God of Storytelling — Generates mana on each cast to fuel recasting the creatures Adun keeps returning.
  • Sakura-Tribe Elder — Endlessly recurrable ramp and chump blocker that smooths your demanding mana base.
  • Skullclamp — Converts recurred small creatures into a relentless card-draw engine.
  • Meren of Clan Nel Toth — Adds battlefield recursion to complement Adun's hand recursion for a full value engine.
  • Bolas's Citadel — Lets you dump your hand of recurred creatures and bury opponents in advantage.
  • Pitiless Plunderer — Generates treasure on every creature death, paying Adun's costly activation repeatedly.

Upgrade Path

Add fast Jund ramp (Signets, talismans, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Birgi) so you can recast what Adun returns the same turn, and lean into free sacrifice outlets plus death-trigger payoffs to convert recursion into damage. Include reanimation spells like Reanimate and Animate Dead so Adun's hand-return targets can also hit the battlefield cheaply, and consider a tutor package (Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent) to assemble a sacrifice-loop combo for a more focused, faster kill.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, or Mayhem Devil loops
  • ▸Recurring a big reanimation target or finisher each turn to grind the board down
  • ▸Infinite sacrifice loops with a free sac outlet, treasure maker, and death payoff
  • ▸Out-valuing the table until you win with overwhelming card advantage and beatdown

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — Adun recurs creatures to sacrifice over and over, fueling drain and damage payoffs.
  • Reanimator — Self-mill plus Adun lets you retrieve fatties to cheat back onto the battlefield.
  • Value Midrange — Constant recursion of ETB and utility creatures grinds opponents out of resources.
  • Combo — Recursion loops with sac outlets and death triggers can assemble infinite damage or drain.
