BuildCard details

The Commander

At the beginning of combat on your turn, put a +1/+1 counter on each of up to two target creatures.

Guide

Gameplan

Agent Bishop turns every combat into free growth, dropping +1/+1 counters on two creatures each turn to snowball a board of buffed threats. You deploy cheap creatures early, use Bishop's counters to push damage and feed counter-synergy payoffs, then close with go-wide anthems or counter-doubling explosions. The deck plays a tempo-aggressive midrange game while leveraging white's resilient token and recursion tools.

Strengths

  • Free, repeatable counter generation every turn with no card investment.
  • Mono-white consistency makes mana and color screw essentially nonexistent.
  • Strong synergy with proliferate and counter-doubling effects for explosive turns.
  • Bishop is only 3 mana, so it comes down early and starts working immediately.

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white lacks card draw and ramp, leading to grindy attrition issues.
  • Counters do nothing if Bishop or your creatures keep getting removed.
  • No built-in evasion or trample means buffed bodies get chump-blocked.
  • Limited interaction beyond white's exile-based removal can leave you behind combo decks.

Key Cards

  • Doubling Season — Doubles every counter Bishop places, instantly turning two counters into four each combat.
  • Branching Evolution — Mono-white-castable counter doubler that supercharges Bishop's per-turn output.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Every creature you play and every token adds counters, stacking absurdly fast alongside Bishop.
  • The Ozolith — Banks counters from dying creatures so Bishop's investment is never wasted.
  • Felidar Retreat — Landfall makes tokens or anthem-style counters, fueling a wide counter board.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your buffed board from the wraths that mono-white counter decks fear most.

Upgrade Path

Add counter-doubling permanents (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, Hardened Scales) and proliferate sources to multiply Bishop's output, then patch white's weaknesses with ramp rocks (Sol Ring, mana rocks, Smothering Tithe) and card advantage like Welcoming Vampire or Mentor of the Meek. Prioritize evasion and protection—Whip Silk, Shadowspear for trample, Heroic Intervention, and Teferi's Protection—so your invested counters actually convert to wins.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Going wide with counter-buffed creatures and an anthem like Craterhoof-style finishers or Coat of Arms.
  • ▸Voltron a single evasive threat loaded with counters for big combat damage.
  • ▸Cathars' Crusade plus counter doublers creating an overwhelming board that no one can race.
  • ▸Grinding incremental advantage until proliferate and doublers make blocking impossible.

Archetypes

  • +1/+1 Counters — Bishop is a free repeatable counter engine that anchors a dedicated counters-matter shell.
  • Tokens / Go-Wide — Producing many bodies gives Bishop and anthems plenty of targets to overwhelm boards.
  • Aggro Midrange — Early creatures plus steady counter growth let you pressure life totals fast.
  • Voltron — Stacking counters on a single evasive creature with auras can deliver lethal commander-style damage.
