BuildCard details

The Commander

Heroic — Whenever you cast a spell that targets Anthousa, up to three target lands you control each become 2/2 Warrior creatures until end of turn. They're still lands.

Guide

Gameplan

Anthousa turns your lands into a beatdown squad: target her with cheap pump or protection spells to animate three lands as 2/2 Warriors, then swing for huge chunks of commander damage. You ramp into her on turn four or five, then use cantrips, auras, and combat tricks to repeatedly trigger Heroic while pumping the team. The deck wins by overwhelming a single player with surprise attackers, ideally killing through commander damage or a wide alpha strike.

Strengths

  • Generates a wide board of creatures out of lands that opponents can't easily preempt with sweepers cast before combat
  • Heroic rewards cheap targeted spells you'd run anyway, giving card-efficient triggers
  • Lands-as-creatures dodge most pre-combat removal and can be reanimated/regrown easily
  • Mono-green gives access to the best ramp and the ability to fight or trample through blockers

Weaknesses

  • The animated lands are only 2/2s and vanish at end of turn, so a board wipe in response to a trigger is devastating and can two-for-one your lands
  • Heavily commander-dependent—if Anthousa is repeatedly removed the engine stalls
  • Mono-green struggles with interaction, lacking counterspells and instant-speed removal
  • Turning lands into creatures exposes your mana base to creature removal and edicts

Key Cards

  • Nylea's Presence — A cheap cantripping aura that targets Anthousa to trigger Heroic while replacing itself.
  • Snake Umbra — Triggers Heroic and gives totem armor protection plus card draw whenever your animated lands connect.
  • Ancestral Mask — Cheap aura that targets Anthousa and grants a massive enchantment-count buff to make her a one-shot threat.
  • Rancor — Recurring trample enabler that triggers Heroic every time and keeps coming back from the graveyard.
  • Nature's Will — Untaps your lands when creatures connect, letting your animated lands attack and still be available for mana.
  • Crucible of Worlds — Lets you replay lands lost to combat, sweepers, or sacrifice, keeping your creature-base resilient.

Upgrade Path

Add more one-mana cantripping targeted spells (Mizzium Mortars-style isn't green, but Vines of Vastwood, Sheltering Word, Wrap in Vigor) to trigger Heroic for value and protect Anthousa from removal. Lean into payoff finishers like Overrun, Craterhoof Behemoth, and Beastmaster Ascension so your animated lands close games instantly, and add recursion (Crucible of Worlds, Ramunap Excavator, Splendid Reclamation) to insulate against board wipes. Tighten the ramp and tutor package (Three Visits, Sylvan Scrying, Green Sun's Zenith) to find Anthousa and key auras faster.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Connect with a heavily-pumped Anthousa for lethal commander damage
  • ▸Animate multiple lands and alpha strike with an anthem like Beastmaster Ascension or Overrun
  • ▸Overwhelm one opponent with a surprise army of 2/2 Warrior lands plus trample
  • ▸Repeated Heroic triggers building an unblockable, evasive threat via auras

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Stack auras and pumps on Anthousa to trigger Heroic repeatedly while turning her into a commander-damage threat.
  • Lands — Her lands-into-creatures ability synergizes with landfall, recursion, and land-matters payoffs.
  • Tokens/Go-Wide — Animating three lands per trigger plus anthems creates a surprise wide board for alpha strikes.
  • Aggro — Mono-green ramp into Anthousa enables fast, aggressive land-army beatdowns.
