Arahbo, the First Fang

Mana value3Rank#4,204
BuildCard details

The Commander

Other Cats you control get +1/+1.

Whenever Arahbo or another nontoken Cat you control enters, create a 1/1 white Cat creature token.

Guide

Gameplan

Flood the board with Cats, buff them all with Arahbo's anthem, and convert wide boards into lethal alpha strikes. Each nontoken Cat you play snowballs more tokens, so you build a self-replicating army and overwhelm before opponents stabilize.

Strengths

  • Doubles up value: every real Cat brings a token along for free
  • Built-in anthem makes even 1/1 tokens into relevant attackers
  • Mono-white keeps the mana base cheap and consistent
  • Goes wide quickly, punishing slow/durdle decks

Weaknesses

  • Extremely vulnerable to board wipes that erase your investment
  • Mono-white lacks card draw and ramp compared to other colors
  • Anthem and token engine both rely on Arahbo sticking around
  • Can stall against decks with strong fogs, lifegain, or go-tall blockers

Key Cards

  • Skullclamp — Turns your endless stream of 1/1 Cat tokens (now 2/2 under the anthem—sac, draw two) into a card-advantage engine.
  • Felidar Retreat — Adds even more Cat tokens or a team-wide counter pump every landfall, multiplying Arahbo's go-wide plan.
  • Pride Sovereign — Pumps based on Cats and taps to make even more Cat tokens, snowballing the board state.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Stacks +1/+1 counters every time a Cat enters, and Arahbo generates tons of token triggers.
  • Ajani, Caller of the Pride — Mono-white Cat planeswalker whose anthem and double-strike ultimate close games fast.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Cheap protection, evasion, and card draw to push through a single threat when going wide stalls.

Upgrade Path

Add token doublers (Anointed Procession, Mondrak) and mass pump (Craterhoof Behemoth, Overwhelming Stampede, Coat of Arms) to convert your board into instant kills. Shore up mono-white's weaknesses with strong card draw (Mentor of the Meek, Welcoming Vampire, Esper Sentinel) and protect the team with Heroic Intervention-style effects like Flawless Maneuver and Teferi's Protection. Prioritize cheap, efficient Cats and anthem effects (Metallic Mimic, Adaptive Automaton) to make the snowball start earlier.

Core Cards

Win Conditions

  • ▸Anthem-buffed wide alpha strike for lethal
  • ▸Overrun-style effects (Craterhoof Behemoth, Coat of Arms) for one-shot kills
  • ▸Ajani, Caller of the Pride double-strike or evasive Cats with equipment
  • ▸Grinding card advantage via Skullclamp until you outvalue and overwhelm

Archetypes

  • Cat Tribal Go-Wide — Arahbo's anthem and token generation directly reward flooding the board with Cats.
  • Tokens — Every nontoken Cat entering spawns a token, pairing perfectly with token doublers and payoffs.
  • +1/+1 Counters — Cat-entry triggers fuel counter engines like Cathars' Crusade and Felidar Retreat.
  • Aggro/Stax-lite — A fast, wide board lets you race and back it up with white's pillow-fort and Stax effects.
