BuildCard details

The Commander

{X}{G}, {T}: Arashi deals X damage to target creature with flying.

Channel — {X}{G}{G}, Discard this card: It deals X damage to each creature with flying.

Guide

Gameplan

Arashi is an off-beat mono-green commander that leans on her anti-flyer ability while the deck plays a midrange ramp-and-stomp game. You accelerate into big creatures, grind value, and use Arashi to snipe problematic flying threats or sweep skies when channeled. Most games are won by overwhelming the board with mana-fueled fatties.

Strengths

  • Mono-green consistency: easy mana base, cheap ramp, and reliable color access
  • Excellent at neutralizing flyers, a common evasive win route in EDH
  • Resilient board-stomp plan backed by green's best ramp and big creatures
  • Channel flexibility means she's never a dead card even from hand

Weaknesses

  • Commander ability only targets flyers, making her useless against ground-based and noncreature threats
  • Mono-green lacks card draw, interaction, and removal for artifacts/enchantments
  • No evasion or inherent win condition on the commander herself
  • Slow to close games against combo or control without a dedicated finisher

Key Cards

  • Sol Ring — Fast mana that powers out big threats and fuels Arashi's expensive X-ability.
  • Heroic Intervention — Protects your board from the wraths that punish a creature-heavy green deck.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — Mono-green's premier finisher to convert a wide board into lethal damage.
  • Beast Within — Green's flexible answer to the noncreature permanents Arashi can't touch.
  • Cultivate — Core ramp and fixing that ensures you hit land drops to fuel X spells and big drops.

Upgrade Path

Add more proactive ramp (Nature's Lore, Three Visits, Carpet of Flowers) and powerful payoffs (Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger, Nyxbloom Ancient) to make her X-ability and finishers explosive. Shore up green's blind spots with the best green card advantage (Beast Whisperer, Guardian Project, Sylvan Library) and broad removal (Acidic Slime, Song of the Dryads). Since Arashi is a narrow commander, consider building her primarily as a value engine and leaning on a tutorable combo or Craterhoof package for consistent kills.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overrun effects like Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede for a single big swing
  • ▸Beating down with mana-ramped giant creatures over multiple turns
  • ▸Pumping Arashi via X-ability is purely removal, so finishers come from the rest of the board

Archetypes

  • Ramp Midrange — Green excels at accelerating into oversized threats that Arashi supports as a control valve.
  • Stompy/Big Creatures — The deck floods the board with fatties and closes with overrun effects.
  • Pseudo-Control (vs flyers) — Arashi acts as a repeatable removal engine and a one-sided skies wrath against flying-heavy tables.
