BuildCard details

The Commander

Menace (This creature can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.)

{W}{B}, {T}, Sacrifice another creature: Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.

Guide

Gameplan

Aron is a go-wide aristocrats commander that turns your expendable creatures into team-wide buffs. Flood the board with tokens and small bodies, then repeatedly sacrifice them to Aron to pump your whole team, ideally while squeezing extra value out of each death trigger. You close games by swinging with a buffed, menacing army backed by drain effects.

Strengths

  • Repeatable anthem-on-a-stick that snowballs board states quickly
  • Built-in evasion via menace makes Aron a real attacker and counter target
  • Aristocrats synergy turns every death into value and damage
  • Cheap three-mana commander that's easy to recast

Weaknesses

  • Wrath-vulnerable: a board wipe undoes all the +1/+1 counter investment
  • Activation is mana-intensive (WB plus tap) and only once per turn without untappers
  • Needs a steady supply of fodder or it does nothing
  • Limited card advantage in BW compared to other aristocrats colors
  • No native protection for Aron himself

Key Cards

  • Bitterblossom — Generates a free sacrifice fodder token every turn to feed Aron's ability.
  • Blood Artist — Turns each creature you sacrifice into incremental drain that also acts as a win condition.
  • Zulaport Cutthroat — Stacks with Blood Artist to drain the whole table as you sacrifice fodder.
  • Cathars' Crusade — Pairs with token production to pile counters alongside Aron's pump for explosive boards.
  • Pitiless Plunderer — Treasures off each death let you reactivate Aron and cast more spells in a turn.
  • Anointed Procession — Doubles your token output, dramatically increasing available sacrifice fodder.

Upgrade Path

Add free sacrifice outlets (Carrion Feeder, Viscera Seer) and token engines to keep fodder flowing without relying solely on Aron's tap. Lean into combo finishes with payoff stacks like Blood Artist effects plus a sac loop, and improve card draw with Skullclamp and Midnight Reaper to refuel. Finally, run protection and recursion (Teferi's Protection, Reanimate) to survive the board wipes that punish this counter-based strategy.
