The Commander

Vigilance

Shooting Star — Whenever Auron attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on it. When you do, exile target creature defending player controls with power less than Auron's power until Auron leaves the battlefield.

Gameplan

Auron is a mono-white Voltron beater that snowballs +1/+1 counters every time it attacks while exiling the defender's best blockers along the way. Suit it up with equipment, auras, and counter synergies to push its power high enough that the Shooting Star trigger clears almost any creature, then connect for lethal commander damage. Each attack makes Auron bigger and removes an obstacle, so the board gets safer for you as the game goes.

Strengths

  • Built-in repeatable, conditional creature removal that exiles rather than destroys, dodging most recursion
  • Snowballs power each combat, so Shooting Star quickly threatens to exile nearly any blocker
  • Vigilance means it attacks and still defends, great for a Voltron commander
  • Mono-white gives access to the best protection, equipment, and counter support in the format
  • Commander damage clock closes games fast once it gets going

Weaknesses

  • Heavily reliant on the commander; removal-light tables can still answer it, and it must attack to grow
  • Mono-white struggles with raw card advantage and ramp compared to other colors
  • Exile effect only hits creatures with power LESS than Auron, so big blockers can wall it early
  • Spot removal or 'edict'/sacrifice effects undo your investment and free the exiled creatures
  • Vulnerable to fogs, damage prevention, and indestructible/protection blockers

  • Swiftfoot Boots — Hexproof and haste protect your investment and let Auron attack the turn it lands.
  • Lightning Greaves — Shroud plus haste shields Auron from targeted removal during the critical build-up turns.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Card draw, extra reach, and protection from red/blue makes Auron both safer and more explosive.
  • The Ozolith — Banks Auron's counters if it dies so you don't lose all your accumulated growth.
  • Hardened Scales — Doubles the Shooting Star counter, raising Auron's power faster to exile bigger blockers.
  • Smothering Tithe — Mono-white's premier ramp engine to keep pace and power out equipment and protection.
  • Skullclamp — Solves white's card draw problem, especially alongside any tokens or small creatures.
  • Sword of Feast and Famine — Untapping lands and stripping a hand each hit lets you protect Auron with open mana.

Upgrade Path

Prioritize cheap protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, Mother of Runes, Giver of Runes) and evasion enablers (Rogue's Passage, Whispersilk Cloak) so Auron connects reliably. Add counter doublers (Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution) and Ozolith-style insurance to make the snowball more resilient, then shore up white's weaknesses with ramp (Smothering Tithe, mana rocks) and card advantage (Skullclamp, Esper Sentinel). Top-end upgrades include double-strike enablers and protective board states like Teferi's Protection to safeguard a single lethal swing.
