BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever Bebop & Rocksteady attack or block, sacrifice a permanent unless you discard a card.

Guide

Gameplan

Bebop & Rocksteady is a cheap, aggressive BG beater whose attack/block trigger fuels graveyard and aristocrats synergies: you'll happily discard reanimation targets or sacrifice expendable tokens and treasures every combat. Curve out fast, attack to load the yard, then reanimate fatties or grind value from sacrifices while chipping in commander damage.

Strengths

  • Cheap three-mana body that pressures opponents immediately and recasts easily
  • The attack/block trigger turns combat into free card filtering for reanimator and self-mill payoffs
  • BG gives access to the best recursion, ramp, and removal in the format
  • Sacrifice mode pairs beautifully with token, treasure, and aristocrats death-trigger packages

Weaknesses

  • The trigger is mandatory disadvantage every combat—if you have nothing good to pitch or sac you bleed resources
  • Two-color identity locks you out of blue counters and white protection
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate that shuts off the reanimation payoff
  • Wants a built-up board/yard, so it can stall in pure aggro shells

Key Cards

  • Reanimate — Turns the cards you discard on attack into a one-mana cheat into a fatty.
  • Animate Dead — Cheaply reanimates the big threats Bebop & Rocksteady discards each combat.
  • Pitiless Plunderer — Generates Treasures off your sacrifices, fueling the trigger and ramping at once.
  • Mayhem Devil — Pings opponents every time you sacrifice a permanent to the trigger.
  • Bloodghast — A recursive creature you can happily pitch or sacrifice over and over.
  • Dockside Extortionist — Floods you with Treasures that are perfect fodder for the sacrifice mode.
  • Grave Pact — Each permanent you sacrifice forces opponents to lose creatures too.

Upgrade Path

Add fast ramp like Sol Ring and dorks plus premium reanimation (Reanimate, Animate Dead, Victimize) so the drawback always cashes into a threat. Build a tight aristocrats core—Pitiless Plunderer, Mayhem Devil, Blood Artist, Grave Pact—so every sacrifice generates value or damage. Round out with graveyard recursion (Eternal Witness, Meren) and efficient interaction to protect your engine against the inevitable graveyard hate.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Reanimated fatties and commander damage closing games quickly
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Mayhem Devil, Blood Artist, and Zulaport Cutthroat
  • ▸Grave Pact-style edicts grinding opponents off their board then alpha striking

Archetypes

  • Reanimator — Combat discards bin haymakers cheaply, then BG recursion brings them back.
  • Aristocrats — The forced sacrifice becomes pure upside with death-trigger payoffs and tokens.
  • Sacrifice/Treasures — Treasure and token engines turn the drawback into a value engine.
  • Graveyard Midrange — Self-mill and recursion let you grind incremental advantage every turn.
