BuildCard details

The Commander

Flying

Prince of Chaos — When Be'lakor enters, you draw X cards and you lose X life, where X is the number of Demons you control.

Lord of Torment — Whenever another Demon you control enters, it deals damage equal to its power to any target.

Guide

Gameplan

Build a Grixis Demon tribal deck where every Demon entering the battlefield throws its power as direct damage at any target—including opponents' faces and creatures. Ramp into a fat board of fliers, cheat big Demons in for free 'pings,' and burn the table down while drawing cards off Be'lakor's ETB. You win through evasive beats and a death-by-a-thousand-cuts barrage of enter-the-battlefield damage.

Strengths

  • Every Demon you play is a removal spell and a burn spell stapled together via Lord of Torment.
  • Flying-heavy board makes combat damage hard to block and races well.
  • Synergizes hugely with blink, reanimation, and recursion to repeat damage triggers.
  • Be'lakor's ETB draw refuels you after committing to the board.

Weaknesses

  • Color-intensive Grixis manabase with high-cost Demons demands heavy ramp.
  • Be'lakor and your payoffs are removal magnets; board wipes hit you hard.
  • Self-damage from Prince of Chaos and life-loss Demons can leave you exposed.
  • Without Demons in play, the commander is just a 6-mana 4/4 flier.

Key Cards

  • Rune-Scarred Demon — Tutors any card and pings 6 to a face on entry, doubling as removal and a finisher.
  • Lord of the Void — A massive flier that snipes a creature for 7 on ETB while raiding opponents' libraries.
  • Reanimate — Cheaply throws a huge Demon into play, triggering Lord of Torment damage for nearly free.
  • Conjurer's Closet — Blinks a Demon every end step to repeat its enter-the-battlefield damage trigger.
  • Sneak Attack — Slams Demons in for one turn, each one firing its power as damage on the way down.
  • Ophiomancer — Generates recurring tokens; pairs with sacrifice and blink engines around your Demon shell.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, signets) to deploy big Demons ahead of curve, and lean into a blink/reanimation package (Marionette Master, Goryo's Vengeance, Eldrazi-style ETB Demons) to abuse Lord of Torment repeatedly. Tighten the manabase with duals, fetches, and fixing, and include protection like Heroic Intervention plus a couple of damage-doubling effects (Furnace of Rath, Torbran-style boosts) to turn pings into kills.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Repeatedly blink or reanimate high-power Demons to burn opponents out via Lord of Torment.
  • ▸Evasive flying Demon beatdown closing games in the air.
  • ▸Combo loops like Gray Merchant or sac-and-reanimate engines draining the table.

Archetypes

  • Demon Tribal — Be'lakor turns every Demon's ETB into burn, rewarding a critical mass of big Demons.
  • Blink — Flickering Demons re-triggers Lord of Torment for repeatable, targeted damage.
  • Reanimator — Cheating expensive Demons from the graveyard maximizes value while still firing damage triggers.
  • Aristocrats — Sac-and-recur loops with Demons turn entries into a steady stream of pings and life drain.
