The Commander

When Bill the Pony enters, create two Food tokens. (They're artifacts with "{2}, {T}, Sacrifice this token: You gain 3 life.")

Sacrifice a Food: Until end of turn, target creature you control assigns combat damage equal to its toughness rather than its power.

Guide

Gameplan

Bill the Pony is a mono-white toughness-matters commander: he makes Food on entry and converts a sacrificed Food into letting a creature deal combat damage equal to its toughness. Build a wall-beatdown deck full of high-toughness defenders, then crack Food to swing for huge chunks while gaining life and grinding the board. You fill the early turns with Food and defensive bodies, then turn your blockers into lethal attackers once Bill is online.

Strengths

  • Turns normally defensive, high-toughness creatures into real win conditions, an unusual axis opponents rarely play around
  • Food tokens provide steady lifegain and fuel artifact synergies in addition to powering his ability
  • Defensive shell means you can survive aggression and combo off late, doubling as a control body
  • Mono-white gives access to deep wrath, removal, and stax-style protection

Weaknesses

  • Bill's ability only works for one creature per Food per turn, so you're often making one big attacker rather than a wide swing
  • Reliant on the commander being on the battlefield; he's easy to kill repeatedly and tax punishes the build
  • Mono-white struggles with card advantage and ramp compared to other colors
  • Without enough Food generation or anthem-style toughness boosts the payoff can be slow

Key Cards

  • Doran, the Siege Tower — Makes all your creatures already assign damage by toughness, multiplying Bill's gameplan without spending Food.
  • Assault Formation — Gives every creature toughness-based combat damage and can pump toughness, freeing Food for lifegain or other uses.
  • High Alert — Lets your big-butt defenders attack while still assigning damage equal to toughness, a perfect redundancy piece.
  • Wall of Omens — A cheap high-toughness blocker that replaces itself, the ideal body to point Bill's ability at.
  • Trove of Temptation — A repeatable Food engine to keep fueling Bill's activated ability every turn.
  • Indestructibility — Protects your key attacker so a single removal spell doesn't blank a Food-pumped swing.

Upgrade Path

Add more enablers that make toughness matter (Doran, Assault Formation, High Alert) so you aren't bottlenecked by one Food per attacker, plus toughness anthems like Belligerent Hippo effects or Unbreakable Formation for protection. Improve mono-white's weak spots with rocks (Arcane Signet, Smothering Tithe), card draw (Welcoming Vampire, Mentor of the Meek triggering off your bodies), and efficient wraths. Finally, expand the Food package with Cauldron Familiar, Witch's Oven, and Trail of Crumbs to keep Bill's ability fueled while generating value.

Archetypes

  • Toughness Matters — Bill rewards stacking defenders and walls, then converting their toughness into combat damage.
  • Lifegain / Food — His entry and ability revolve around Food tokens, feeding incidental lifegain payoffs.
  • Voltron — Pile toughness boosters and protection on one creature to swing for commander-damage kills.
  • Control — Mono-white wraths and a wall of defenders let you stabilize and win late.
