BuildCard details

The Commander

Whenever Borborygmos and Fblthp enters or attacks, draw a card, then you may discard any number of land cards. When you discard one or more cards this way, Borborygmos and Fblthp deals twice that much damage to target creature.

{1}{U}: Put Borborygmos and Fblthp into its owner's library third from the top.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast Borborygmos and Fblthp as a recurring card-advantage and removal engine: each ETB or attack draws and lets you pitch lands to blast creatures. You flood the battlefield with lands and land synergies, refill with draw, and either go wide/big with Landfall or burn the table down via the discard trigger combined with damage doublers and extra combats. The {1}{U} tuck ability protects it from removal and resets the ETB.

Strengths

  • Built-in card advantage every turn from the draw trigger
  • Repeatable creature removal that scales (twice the lands discarded as damage)
  • Excellent self-protection via the {1}{U} library-tuck ability dodging removal and recasting cheaply
  • Loves heavy land counts, fueling Landfall and lands-matter payoffs
  • Temur colors give access to ramp, draw, and the best damage doublers and extra-combat effects

Weaknesses

  • Removal trigger only hits creatures, not players or planeswalkers, so it's weak as direct reach without doublers
  • Discarding lands to deal damage thins your battlefield resources and can hurt landfall plans
  • Relatively fragile body (no evasion or trample baseline) for a 5-mana commander
  • Needs a heavy land/discard payoff shell to do anything beyond cantripping
  • Three-color identity can strain the mana base and you want lots of lands anyway

Key Cards

  • Crucible of Worlds — Lets you replay the lands you discard each turn, turning the removal trigger into a renewable resource.
  • Ramunap Excavator — A creature-based Crucible that recurs discarded fetchlands and lands for repeated landfall and discard fuel.
  • City of Brass — Pain-free fixing aside, you want a stuffed land base so the discard-for-damage ability stays loaded.
  • Wild Growth — Stand-in for mana doublers and ramp that let you fund the {1}{U} tuck and re-cast loop every turn.
  • Roiling Regrowth — Sacrifices and returns lands to refill your hand with discardable lands and trigger landfall.
  • Gruul Ragebeast — Combos with the attack/ETB triggers to force fights, but doublers like Furnace of Rath turn the discard damage lethal.
  • Aggravated Assault — Extra combat steps mean extra attack triggers, drawing more cards and firing the removal blast repeatedly.
  • Scapeshift — Loads your hand with a pile of lands to discard for a massive single-shot removal blast.

Upgrade Path

Lean harder into a dedicated lands package—add fetchlands plus Crucible of Worlds and Ramunap Excavator so discarded lands return and refire the trigger, and run Lotus Cobra, Tireless Provisioner, and Scute Swarm for landfall payoffs. Add damage doublers (Furnace of Rath, Gratuitous Violence) and extra-combat enablers (Aggravated Assault, Combat Celebration) to convert the removal trigger into a true kill engine. Finish with a finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth or Scapeshift-into-Field of the Dead and tighten your mana with on-color duals and signets to consistently fund the {1}{U} protection loop.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Attacking with large landfall-pumped or trampling creatures while removing blockers via the discard trigger
  • ▸Combining damage doublers (Furnace of Rath, Dictate of the Twins-style effects) with mass land discards to wipe boards and pressure life totals
  • ▸Going wide with land-based token makers (Avenger of Zendikar, Scute Swarm) and overrunning with Craterhoof Behemoth or Overwhelming Stampede
  • ▸Grinding out the table with relentless card advantage until you out-resource and out-value everyone

Archetypes

  • Lands Matter — The commander wants maximum land density to fuel discard-damage, and rewards landfall and land recursion.
  • Spellslinger/Value Control — Constant card draw plus repeatable removal lets you grind and control the board while building card advantage.
  • Extra Combats — Each attack re-triggers draw and the damage blast, so extra-combat effects multiply your engine and damage output.
  • Big Mana Ramp — Temur ramp powers out the commander early and funds repeated tuck-and-recast plus expensive land payoffs.
