BuildCard details

The Commander

First strike

{T}: Brigid deals 2 damage to each attacking or blocking creature target player controls.

Guide

Gameplan

Brigid plays as a mono-white defensive pillow-fort and pinger that punishes opponents for attacking or blocking. Tap her each combat to wipe out small attackers/blockers (2 damage to all combat creatures one player controls), then leverage untap effects and damage amplifiers to clear entire boards or sneak in damage. You win slowly by surviving, controlling the board, and eventually closing with a Voltron threat or token swarm.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, instant-speed board control that deters attacks and breaks up alpha strikes
  • First strike makes her a strong blocker and survivable on the battlefield
  • Cheap mono-white commander with strong defensive synergy and pillow-fort tools
  • Punishes go-wide aggro decks and discourages opponents from racing

Weaknesses

  • Mono-white means weak card draw, ramp, and interaction relative to other colors
  • Only deals 2 damage and only to one player's combat creatures—slow against big threats
  • No inherent way to actually win; needs a separate finisher package
  • Vulnerable to removal and being a 'do-nothing' commander if opponents simply don't attack

Key Cards

  • Thousand-Year Elixir — Lets Brigid tap the turn she enters and gives an extra untap to ping twice per turn cycle.
  • Magewright's Stone — Untaps Brigid for a second activation, doubling her combat damage output each turn.
  • Gisela, Blade of Goldnight — Doubles Brigid's damage to opponents' creatures, turning her ping into a 4-damage board sweep.
  • Ghostly Prison — Stacks with Brigid's deterrent to make attacking into you prohibitively expensive.
  • Sword of Feast and Famine — Untaps your lands and protects Brigid, supporting a Voltron line and extra activations.
  • Reconnaissance — Lets your attackers pull back before damage while Brigid mows down would-be blockers.

Upgrade Path

Add untap engines (Thousand-Year Elixir, Magewright's Stone, Sword of Feast and Famine) and damage doublers (Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Furnace of Rath effects) to weaponize her ping. Shore up mono-white's weaknesses with strong card advantage (Mind's Eye, Welcoming Vampire, Esper Sentinel) and ramp (Smothering Tithe, mana rocks). Finally, commit to a clear win package—either a tuned Voltron suite or a token/anthem finish like Approach of the Second Sun—so the deck does more than durdle.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Voltron beatdown with equipment and protection on Brigid
  • ▸Token swarm overwhelming a board kept small by repeated pings
  • ▸Damage amplifiers like Gisela turning Brigid into a one-sided board wipe
  • ▸Grinding opponents out via pillow-fort and stax until you assemble a finisher

Archetypes

  • Pillow-Fort Control — Brigid plus taxing enchantments punishes and discourages all combat against you.
  • Voltron — Mono-white equipment and protection let Brigid carry the game as a first-striking, board-clearing threat.
  • Stax/Prison — Pairs with attack taxes and untap shenanigans to grind opponents out of resources and creatures.
  • Tokens — A wide token board lets you out-survive while Brigid clears opposing combat steps.
