Gameplan

Chameleon is a mono-blue clone-on-a-stick: cast him as a copy of your best creature to double up on powerful ETBs, evasion, or stat lines. You build a board of value creatures, then leverage Chameleon (and other copy effects) to multiply the most impactful one, while Mayhem lets you rebuy him from the graveyard if he's discarded. The deck wins by snowballing card advantage and tempo until you out-resource the table.

Strengths

  • Effectively a second copy of whatever your strongest creature is, scaling with your board
  • Mayhem gives recursion—pitch him to a looter and recast for {2}{U} instead of paying command tax
  • Mono-blue access to the format's best counters, card draw, and tutors for consistency
  • Cheap to recast and flexible: he can dodge removal by copying a hexproof or protected creature

Weaknesses

  • Does nothing on an empty board—he needs an existing creature to copy and is a vanilla 0/0-style dud otherwise
  • Mono-blue lacks efficient creature and artifact removal
  • Copy effects die to the same board wipes that hit the original, so he's fragile to sweepers
  • No inherent way to close games; he amplifies your engine rather than providing a finisher

  • Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer — Turns your token swarm into copies of your best creature, multiplying the Chameleon strategy into a wincon.
  • Body Double — Copies the strongest creature in any graveyard, extending the clone package.

Upgrade Path

Lean into copy density—add Sakashima of a Thousand Faces, Spark Double, Phantasmal Image, and Phyrexian Metamorph—plus a payoff creature worth copying like Consecrated Sphinx or Aetherflux-style engines. Tighten the mana with fast rocks (Sol Ring, Mana Crystals) and tutors (Mystical Tutor, Fabricate) to find Brudiclad for a fast token-copy kill. Finally, add interaction like Pact of Negation and Cyclonic Rift to protect the engine and ensure your doubled threats stick.
