The Commander

{R}{R}{R}, {T}: Destroy target artifact creature.

Guide

Gameplan

Chandler is a mono-red commander with a narrow ability, so the deck plays as a generically aggressive/burn red deck that uses the command zone mostly for color identity rather than synergy. You curve out with efficient creatures and burn, apply early pressure, and finish with direct damage or a wide attack. Chandler's activated ability is fringe artifact-creature removal you'll rarely lean on.

Strengths

  • Mono-red consistency: no mana-fixing concerns and easy access to your best cards
  • Fast, proactive aggro/burn plan that closes games before slower decks set up
  • Strong reach via direct-damage spells to finish players from across the table
  • Built-in answer to artifact creatures (e.g. opposing Wurmcoil, Solemn Simulacrum) when needed

Weaknesses

  • Chandler's ability is extremely narrow and triple-red, so it's mostly a dead text box
  • Mono-red struggles with card advantage and grinding multiplayer attrition
  • No built-in card draw, ramp, or recursion from the commander itself
  • Aggro damage gets diluted across three opponents; can run out of gas

Key Cards

  • Krenko, Mob Boss — Generates an explosive token army that converts into lethal damage with sac outlets or burn.
  • Purphoros, God of the Forge — Turns every creature entering into reach damage, letting you ping out the whole table.
  • Torbran, Thane of Red Fell — Amplifies all your burn and pings, dramatically accelerating the kill clock.
  • Goblin Bombardment — A free sacrifice outlet that turns creatures and tokens into direct damage to faces.
  • Fireflux Squad — Cheats big threats into play and converts attackers into board presence.
  • Skullclamp — Mono-red's best card-draw engine, refueling token and aggro strategies.

Upgrade Path

Lean into a focused plan—either goblins (Krenko, Goblin Recruiter, Skirk Prospector) or burn (Torbran, Fiery Emancipation, Banefire)—rather than spreading thin. Add red's best ramp and card advantage (Jeska's Will, Wheel of Misfortune, Outpost Siege) to fight mono-red's gas problems, and include fast mana like Mana Crypt and Jeweled Lotus to deploy threats ahead of curve. Cap it with a combo backup such as Krenko + Goblin Bombardment + a haste source for a deterministic finish.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Going wide with goblins/tokens and swinging or sacrificing for lethal
  • ▸Purphoros/Torbran-amplified noncombat damage pinging the table out
  • ▸Direct burn spells finishing low-life opponents
  • ▸Single large hasty threat plus extra-combat or trample effects

Archetypes

  • Aggro — Mono-red gives access to the most efficient early creatures and haste enablers for a fast clock.
  • Burn / Spellslinger — Direct-damage spells plus multipliers like Torbran can target all opponents to close games.
  • Goblin Tribal — Red's goblin package (Krenko, Purphoros) makes wide token boards that overwhelm or sac for damage.
  • Artifact Hate — Chandler's ability and red's stack of artifact destruction lets you build a soft anti-artifact role.
