The Commander

Flying, protection from creatures

Guide

Gameplan

Suit up an evasive, near-unkillable commander and beat down with Voltron in mono-white. Eesha's flying plus protection from creatures means she dodges blockers and combat removal, so the deck loads her with auras and equipment while leaning on white's noncreature interaction to clear the path. Win through repeated 21-damage commander hits, supplemented by anthem-pumped tokens or stax when the board stalls.

Strengths

  • Protection from creatures makes Eesha immune to creature-based blocks and removal, a huge asset in creature-heavy pods
  • Flying gives reliable evasion to land commander damage
  • Cheap to recast at 4 mana, keeping the Voltron plan resilient to wrath effects
  • Mono-white access to strong equipment, taxes, and recursion

Weaknesses

  • Vulnerable to targeted noncreature removal, edicts, and board wipes since protection only covers creatures
  • Mono-white is the worst color for card advantage and ramp
  • Voltron strategies fold to a single Swords to Plowshares or counter-attack while tapped out
  • Low base power (2/1) means she needs significant investment to threaten lethal

Key Cards

  • Swiftfoot Boots — Hexproof and haste shore up Eesha's biggest weakness—targeted removal—while letting her swing the turn she's cast.
  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Adds damage, card draw, and pseudo-protection, accelerating the commander-damage clock on an already evasive body.
  • Shadowspear — Trample and lifelink stop chump-style damage prevention and the protection lets her connect freely.
  • Sigarda's Aid — Flash in equipment at instant speed and free-attach auras, protecting Eesha and ambushing for lethal.
  • Smothering Tithe — One of mono-white's only real ramp/advantage engines, fueling the equip-heavy game plan.
  • Generous Gift — Mono-white needs flexible answers, and this hits any threat that could stop your commander.

Upgrade Path

Prioritize protection layers—Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, and Sigarda's Aid—so a single removal spell doesn't blow you out, and add Mother of Runes/Giver of Runes for repeatable safety. Improve mono-white's weak spots with fast mana (Sol Ring, mana rocks) and card advantage like Esper Sentinel, Land Tax, and Welcoming Vampire. To raise the ceiling, run a tighter equipment package (Swords cycle, Colossus Hammer plus Puresteel Paladin/Sigarda's Aid for cheap lethal) and efficient board protection like Teferi's Protection and Flawless Maneuver.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Deal 21 commander damage with an equipped/aura'd Eesha
  • ▸Go wide with white tokens under anthems like Cathars' Crusade
  • ▸Overrun-style finishers such as Skullclamp-fueled aggression or Approach of the Second Sun in slower builds

Archetypes

  • Voltron — Flying plus protection from creatures makes Eesha an ideal unblockable, removal-resistant carrier for auras and equipment.
  • Equipment Aggro — White's deep equipment pool turns the cheap commander into a fast commander-damage clock.
  • Stax/Taxes — Mono-white can slow opponents with Thalia-style taxes and pillowfort while chipping away with Eesha.
  • Tokens — Anthems and white token makers provide a backup board presence when Eesha gets exiled.
