Gameplan

Cult of Skaro is a Grixis (BRU) Dalek/artifact-creature aggro-midrange commander that wants to attack early and often, triggering its random menu of counters, card draw, tokens, and direct damage. You build a wide artifact-creature board (Daleks tribal), protect and accelerate Cult of Skaro into the red zone, then snowball whichever mode fires. Repeated attacks pump your team (Thay), refill your hand (Caan), build the board (Sec), or drain the table (Jast) until you overrun or burn opponents out.

Strengths

  • Generates value on every attack regardless of which mode hits, making combat hard to ignore
  • Grixis colors give access to removal, card draw, burn, and powerful artifact synergies
  • Builds a wide artifact-creature board that scales with anthems and counters
  • Jast and Sec give reach and inevitability even through board stalls
  • Strong with extra-combat and 'whenever attacks' doublers since each combat re-rolls the menu

Weaknesses

  • The random trigger means you can't reliably plan which effect you'll get
  • Relies on connecting in combat, so it stalls against fogs, heavy blockers, and removal-heavy tables
  • As an artifact creature it's vulnerable to both creature and artifact removal
  • Wants to be a creature attacker, so it's somewhat fragile and prone to being chump-blocked or killed before triggering
  • Three-color manabase and artifact reliance make it weak to Vandalblast-style sweeps

Key Cards

  • Strionic Resonator — Copies the attack trigger so you get two random modes per combat, doubling its output.
  • Isshin, Two Heavens as One — Doubles each attack trigger, effectively rolling the menu twice every time Cult of Skaro attacks.
  • Aggravated Assault — Generates extra combats, letting you re-roll the trigger and push more damage with Jast and your board.
  • Hardened Scales — Amplifies the Thay mode to make every artifact creature grow faster across attacks.
  • Urabrask the Hidden — Gives your Daleks haste and disincentivizes blocks, helping Cult of Skaro connect immediately.
  • Swiftfoot Boots — Haste and hexproof get the commander attacking the turn it lands while dodging targeted removal.

Upgrade Path

Lean into trigger multipliers (Isshin, Strionic Resonator) and extra-combat enablers (Aggravated Assault, Combat Celebrant) so each attack rolls multiple modes, turning randomness into raw volume. Add evasion and protection—haste enablers, Whispersilk Cloak, and counterspells—so Cult of Skaro reliably connects and survives. Tighten the manabase with fast rocks (Arcane Signet, Talisman of Dominance) and tribal/artifact payoffs (Skullclamp, anthem effects) to make even unlucky rolls advance your board.

  • Spellslinger Midrange — Grixis gives burn and card advantage that complement Caan draws and Jast life loss to close games.
