BuildCard details

The Commander

Deathtouch

Skip your draw step.

At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have fewer than seven cards in hand, draw cards equal to the difference.

Guide

Gameplan

Ramp into a turn 5-6 Damia, then refill your hand to seven every upkeep, turning that card advantage into a relentless stream of removal, ramp, and value before assembling a combo or grinding the table out. You play a midrange-control game built on Sultai's best interaction and recursion, leveraging a stocked grip to win the long game.

Strengths

  • Massive, repeatable card advantage that refuels you to seven cards every turn
  • Deathtouch makes Damia a strong blocker and political deterrent
  • Sultai gives access to premium ramp, removal, recursion, and combo pieces
  • Empties your hand and is rewarded for it, pairing beautifully with discard and graveyard synergies

Weaknesses

  • Seven mana commander is slow and a removal magnet, costing you the engine if she dies repeatedly
  • No built-in board protection or evasion on her own
  • The draw only triggers up to seven, so it can flood you with lands you can't use
  • Skipping your draw step hurts before she resolves and if she's off the board

Key Cards

  • The Gitrog Monster — Sacrifices extra lands for cards while you're already incentivized to dump your hand, fueling explosive draws.
  • Notion Thief — Punishes opponents' draw effects while you keep refilling, turning symmetrical draw into a one-sided beating.
  • Mystic Remora — Cheap, sustained card draw that synergizes with Damia's empty-hand refill and keeps your grip full of gas.
  • Cyclonic Rift — A one-sided board reset you can hold in a full hand and deploy to swing the game open.
  • Sylvan Library — Lets you sculpt your draws and dig deep, working around the skipped draw step with raw selection.
  • Smothering Tithe — Generates explosive mana to dump your seven-card hand each turn and keep tempo against the table.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crest artifacts, Mana Drain) and protection like Heroic Intervention or Lightning Greaves so Damia survives and lands a turn earlier. Lean into payoffs for the full hand—Reliquary Tower, The Locust God, Notion Thief, and tutors to assemble a compact combo—then trim clunky high-cost cards for efficient interaction like Swords to Plowshares, Assassin's Trophy, and Fierce Guardianship.s

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Grinding the table out with overwhelming card advantage and incremental value
  • ▸A two-card infinite combo found by deep card flow (e.g., Mikaeus + Triskelion)
  • ▸Big reanimated threats or a Torment of Hailfire/Exsanguinate X-spell payoff
  • ▸Beating down with deathtouch Damia plus evasive or token threats

Archetypes

  • Midrange Value/Control — A constantly full hand of interaction and threats lets Damia grind opponents out over a long game.
  • Combo — Endless card flow finds combo pieces like Mikaeus/Triskelion or Demonic Consultation lines reliably.
  • Reanimator — Discarding excess cards to refill enables pitching fatties to the yard for big reanimation payoffs.
  • Spellslinger/Storm — A refueling engine supports a deck that empties its hand on instants and sorceries each turn.
