The Commander

Noncreature, non-Equipment artifacts you control are Equipment in addition to their other types and have "Equipped creature gets +1/+0" and equip {1}.

Doctor's companion (You can have two commanders if the other is the Doctor.)

Guide

Gameplan

Dan Lewis turns your whole artifact suite into cheap Equipment, letting you suit up a single creature with a pile of +1/+0 buffs while also keeping each artifact's original ability online. As a Doctor's companion he wants to pair with a Doctor partner (or be paired with a beefy attacker) and snowball mana rocks, Treasures, and utility artifacts into a Voltron threat that swings hard and connects for damage triggers.

Strengths

  • Converts ramp artifacts (Sol Ring, Signets, Treasures) into free attack-boosting Equipment, turning dead mana into damage
  • Cheap {1} equip costs let you re-suit creatures every turn for huge tempo swings
  • Mono-red gives reliable Equipment payoffs, extra combats, and direct damage backup
  • Pairs with any Doctor for a flexible two-commander shell and bigger color access through the partner

Weaknesses

  • Equipment buffs only grant +1/+0, so you need many artifacts to make a real threat — slow to start
  • Extremely vulnerable to a single removal spell on the equipped creature, wasting all that mana
  • Boardwipes and artifact destruction can erase your whole engine at once
  • Only +1/+0 means no toughness or evasion on its own; the creature can be blocked or outraced

Key Cards

  • Sol Ring — Premier ramp that becomes a free +1/+0 Equipment, so it works as mana and a buff simultaneously.
  • Sigarda's Aid — Lets you attach all your artifact-Equipment at flash speed for free, enabling explosive surprise attacks.
  • Puresteel Paladin — Free equips when you have metalcraft and card draw on Equipment ETBs supercharges Dan's artifact-Equipment swarm.
  • Brass Squire — Repeatable free attaching of your heaviest artifacts onto your attacker each turn.
  • Combat Celebrant — Extra combat steps multiply the damage from your stacked +1/+0 Equipment for explosive finishes.

Upgrade Path

Add cheap evasion and protection like Swiftfoot Boots, Whispersilk Cloak, and Shadowspear to keep your equipped attacker alive and connecting. Lean into free-equip enablers (Sigarda's Aid, Puresteel Paladin, Brass Squire) and extra combats (Aggravated Assault, Combat Celebrant) to convert +1/+0 stacks into one-shot kills. Round out with strong mana rocks that double as Equipment and a few protective instants to dodge spot removal and boardwipes.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from a single creature loaded with artifact-Equipment buffs
  • ▸Extra-combat finishers like Combat Celebrant or Aggravated Assault doubling your stacked damage
  • ▸Granting evasion (trample, unblockable, double strike) to swing for lethal
  • ▸Direct burn and damage-doubling effects to close out after chip damage

Archetypes

  • Voltron — He stacks every artifact you own onto one creature for a lethal, cheaply-equipped beater.
  • Artifacts — Rewards flooding the board with mana rocks and utility artifacts that double as buffs.
  • Aggro — Mono-red Equipment aggression with extra combats and evasion to push commander damage.
