BuildCard details

The Commander

+2: Discard up to two cards, then draw that many cards.

−2: Sacrifice an artifact. If you do, return target artifact card from your graveyard to the battlefield.

−10: You get an emblem with "Whenever an artifact is put into your graveyard from the battlefield, return that card to the battlefield at the beginning of the next end step."

Daretti, Scrap Savant can be your commander.

Guide

Gameplan

Mono-red artifact reanimator: ramp into and rummage away expensive artifacts, then loop them back with Daretti's -2 to grind value and overwhelm the table. You filter your hand with +2 each turn while sacrificing cheap artifacts to recur game-enders, eventually ultimating for an emblem that makes every artifact death recursive.

Strengths

  • Built-in card filtering and selection from the command zone in mono-red, which normally struggles to dig
  • Turns artifact sacrifice into a value engine, recurring bombs like Wurmcoil Engine or board wipes on a stick
  • Protects himself by adding loyalty (+2) while still generating advantage
  • Powerful, achievable ultimate that locks in a near-unbeatable artifact recursion loop
  • Strong synergy with cheap artifact ramp that doubles as sacrifice fodder

Weaknesses

  • Mono-red has limited interaction, especially against enchantments and resolved combos
  • Reliant on artifacts, so artifact hate (Vandalblast, Bane of Progress) hits the whole deck
  • Planeswalkers are vulnerable to attacks and can be removed before generating value
  • -2 requires both an artifact to sacrifice and a target in the graveyard, so it can stall on empty
  • No access to blue/black tutors or recursion outside of red's narrow toolbox

Key Cards

  • Wurmcoil Engine — The premier reanimation target—sacrifice it for value and Daretti -2 it right back, leaving two tokens behind.
  • Goblin Welder — Doubles Daretti's gameplan, swapping artifacts between battlefield and graveyard for repeatable abuse.
  • Daretti, Scrap Savant emblem (Mycosynth Lattice) — With Lattice plus the emblem or Vandalblast, you can lock the table out of their permanents.
  • Mycosynth Lattice — Turns everything into artifacts, enabling devastating overload Vandalblast and full synergy with Daretti's emblem.
  • Trash for Treasure — A second Daretti effect, reanimating your biggest artifact for cheap and rewarding sacrifice fodder.
  • Solemn Simulacrum — Cheap artifact that ramps, draws, and is perfect to sacrifice and recur repeatedly.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and ramp (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Mind Stone, Mind Lattice synergy) to deploy Daretti and bombs ahead of schedule, and tighten the artifact suite toward high-impact reanimation targets. Include the Lattice + Vandalblast lock and a sacrifice payoff like Disciple of the Vault for a real win, plus protection like Lightning Greaves and extra board wipes (Blasphemous Act) to defend your planeswalker.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Beat down with recurring artifact creatures like Wurmcoil Engine, Myr Battlesphere, or large Eldrazi
  • ▸Lock the table with Mycosynth Lattice + Vandalblast/emblem, then win uncontested
  • ▸Loop sacrifice payoffs (Disciple of the Vault, Marionette Master-style) for incidental damage
  • ▸Reanimate a Blightsteel Colossus or commander-damage threat for a fast kill

Archetypes

  • Artifact Reanimator — Daretti's -2 returns big artifacts from the graveyard, making rummaging away bombs and looping them the core engine.
  • Stax — The ultimate emblem plus Mycosynth Lattice and Vandalblast can strip opponents of all permanents.
  • Big Mana / Eldrazi — Artifact ramp into colorless beaters and Eldrazi gives mono-red a top-end finish.
  • Spellslinger/Artifact Sacrifice value — Cheap artifacts feed his -2 while welders and recursion create incremental advantage.
