The Commander

Flying

Whenever Dromar deals combat damage to a player, you may pay {2}{U}. If you do, choose a color, then return all creatures of that color to their owners' hands.

Guide

Gameplan

Dromar is a tempo-control commander that grinds the board to nothing while protecting itself. Spend the early game stalling with removal and wraths, deploy Dromar, and connect for combat damage to trigger mass bounce of a chosen color, repeatedly resetting opponents' boards while you rebuild faster. Win slowly through Esper card advantage, control, and a few finishers.

Strengths

  • Repeatable color-based mass bounce is a powerful, asymmetric board reset you can aim at the scariest player.
  • Esper colors give access to the best removal, counterspells, and card draw in the format.
  • A 5/5 flier is a respectable evasive clock that pressures life totals while enabling its trigger.
  • Bounce dodges indestructible and recursion-heavy boards that wraths struggle against.

Weaknesses

  • The bounce only triggers on combat damage, so chump blockers and fliers shut it off entirely.
  • Costs {2}{U} on top of getting Dromar through, making the trigger mana-intensive and slow.
  • Mono-color or two-color opponents punish single-color bounce, while five-color tables blunt it.
  • Six mana and three colors make for a clunky, removal-magnet commander that draws hate.

Key Cards

  • Whispersilk Cloak — Unblockable guarantees Dromar's combat damage and bounce trigger while granting shroud protection.
  • Rogue's Passage — Repeatable unblockable lets Dromar connect through any blocker to fire its ability.
  • Cyclonic Rift — A one-sided overload bounce that complements Dromar's color-based reset for a clean alpha strike.
  • Propaganda — Keeps you alive behind a slow tempo plan so Dromar has time to repeatedly clear boards.
  • Sword of Feast and Famine — Untaps lands to pay the bounce cost the same turn and forces discards after connecting.
  • Teferi, Hero of Dominaria — Premier Esper control planeswalker for card advantage and grinding out the long game.

Upgrade Path

Add more unblockable enablers (Trailblazer's Boots, Aqueous Form) and untap effects so the {2}{U} trigger fires every turn reliably. Lean into fast mana (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, mana rocks) and premium interaction (Swords to Plowshares, Counterspell, mana drains) to land Dromar ahead of schedule. Top-end can shift toward a control-combo finish with Teferi's Protection for protection and a compact wincon like Thassa's Oracle or a craterhoof-style alpha-strike alternative.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Repeated Dromar combat damage chipping life totals while keeping boards empty
  • ▸Voltron Dromar with equipment dealing lethal commander damage
  • ▸Grinding opponents out of resources with bounce plus Esper card advantage, then closing with a finisher
  • ▸Slamming Cyclonic Rift overload and swinging with an evasive board

Archetypes

  • Control — Esper colors plus a repeatable board reset let you dictate the game and neutralize threats.
  • Tempo — Bouncing creatures rather than killing them keeps opponents off-tempo while Dromar pressures life totals.
  • Voltron — Equipment and unblockable enablers turn Dromar into an evasive beater that also clears blockers.
  • Stax — Tax pieces and bounce loops can lock opponents out of meaningfully redeploying their boards.
