BuildCard details

The Commander

When Duskana enters, draw a card for each creature you control with base power and toughness 2/2.

Whenever a creature you control with base power and toughness 2/2 attacks, it gets +3/+3 until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Duskana is a Naya go-wide aggro engine: flood the board with creatures whose base power and toughness are 2/2, then attack to pump each into a 5/5. Her enter-the-battlefield draw refills your hand based on those creatures, so you can recast her repeatedly to dig and keep pressure on multiple opponents. You win by curving out cheap 2/2s and token makers, then alpha striking once Duskana turns the whole team into beaters.

Strengths

  • Strong, repeatable card advantage from her ETB, especially after a board wipe rebuild
  • The +3/+3 trigger is per-creature and unconditional, making even mana-dork-sized bodies hit like trucks
  • Naya colors give access to the best token, anthem, and pump support
  • Cheap to deploy a wide board, so she enables fast, redundant aggression

Weaknesses

  • The combat buff only helps creatures with base power AND toughness exactly 2/2, so +1/+1 counters and many strong creatures don't qualify
  • Extremely vulnerable to board wipes that erase your go-wide investment
  • No built-in evasion or trample, so a single big blocker or fog can stall your alpha strike
  • Removal-heavy or stax tables can grind down a deck reliant on creature density

Key Cards

  • Ohran Frostfang — Grants deathtouch and a card per attacker, turning your buffed 2/2s into both threats and a draw engine.
  • Craterhoof Behemoth — Adds trample and massive power on top of Duskana's pumps for a one-shot kill across the table.
  • Intangible Virtue — Buffs your token-based 2/2 army and stacks with the attack trigger for huge swings.
  • Skullclamp — Sacrifices expendable 2/2 tokens for explosive card draw to refuel between attacks.
  • Ezuri's Predation — Floods the board with 2/2 fish tokens that immediately synergize with both of Duskana's abilities.
  • Adeline, Resplendent Cathar — Spits out 1/1 Humans, but more importantly snowballs your token-attack strategy alongside the team buff.

Upgrade Path

Lean into bodies that stay base 2/2 (avoid +1/+1 counter payoffs that void the buff) and add evasion/trample enablers like Craterhoof Behemoth and Overwhelming Stampede so your swings actually connect. Add protection and recursion—Heroic Intervention, Boros Charm, and blink effects like Ephemerate to re-fire her draw—to beat wraths. Tighten the mana with fast rocks (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet) and dual lands so you can deploy a board and recast Duskana in the same turn.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Wide alpha strike with the whole team buffed +3/+3
  • ▸Overrun-style finish via Craterhoof Behemoth, Overwhelming Stampede, or Pathbreaker Ibex for trample
  • ▸Grinding card advantage off ETB draws and Skullclamp/Ohran Frostfang to out-resource opponents
  • ▸Anthem stacking plus the attack trigger pushing through repeated combat damage

Archetypes

  • Tokens — Most token makers produce 2/2-or-pumpable bodies that all benefit from her attack trigger and feed her ETB draw.
  • Aggro — Cheap 2/2 creatures becoming 5/5 attackers en masse lets you race the whole table early.
  • Bear Tribal — As a Bear with 2/2 synergy, she's the perfect payoff for a creature-type theme full of naturally 2/2 bears.
  • Blink — Flickering Duskana re-triggers her draw, refilling your hand each time you rebuild a wide board.
