The Commander

Flying

ED-E My Love — Whenever you attack, if the number of attacking creatures is greater than the number of quest counters on ED-E, put a quest counter on it.

{2}, Sacrifice ED-E: Draw a card, then draw an additional card for each quest counter on ED-E.

Guide

Gameplan

ED-E is a colorless go-wide robot that accrues quest counters every combat as your attacking horde grows, turning into a massive card-draw payoff when you sacrifice it. You build a wide artifact/token board, attack each turn to stack counters, then cash ED-E in to refill your hand and rebuild bigger. As a colorless commander you lean on artifact synergies, mana rocks, and an Eldrazi/equipment endgame.

Strengths

  • Cheap 3-mana flying commander that fits any color identity deck as a guest, but here anchors a unique colorless build
  • Built-in card advantage engine that scales with board width, rare for colorless decks
  • Synergizes naturally with token-makers and go-wide artifact strategies
  • Flying body pressures life totals and chips in for quest counters itself

Weaknesses

  • Restricted to colorless cards, severely limiting interaction, removal, and tutors
  • No native ramp in color identity beyond artifact rocks
  • Sacrificing ED-E means losing your commander and your evasive attacker—and recasting costs more
  • Vulnerable to board wipes that erase the wide board you depend on
  • Counter accumulation is slow; needs several attack steps to pay off big

Key Cards

  • Sol Ring — Premier colorless ramp to deploy ED-E and a wide board ahead of curve.
  • Hangarback Walker — Builds your attacking width with tokens and gives value when it dies into your aristocrat shells.
  • Thopter Assembly — Floods the board with five flyers to push quest counters quickly.
  • Myr Battlesphere — Drops four tokens and itself for an instant wide attack to stack counters.
  • Ugin, the Spirit Dragon — Top-end colorless threat and one of the few wipe/removal options available to the deck.
  • Lightning Greaves — Protects ED-E from removal and lets it attack the turn it lands to start counting.

Upgrade Path

Add fast colorless ramp (Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Grim Monolith) and powerful payoffs (Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger) to convert ED-E's card draw into game-ending plays. Prioritize the limited colorless interaction available—Karn Liberated, Ugin, Spine of Ish Sah, and All Is Dust—to survive without colored removal. Tighten the token core with efficient artifact creature makers and protection like Swiftfoot Boots so your counters accrue uninterrupted before you sacrifice for the big refill.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Overwhelming the table with a wide go-wide artifact/token army
  • ▸Refueling via ED-E's draw and grinding opponents out with raw card advantage
  • ▸Casting big Eldrazi like Ulamog or Kozilek as inevitable finishers
  • ▸Voltron-ish evasive damage from ED-E plus equipment in a pinch

Archetypes

  • Tokens / Go-Wide — More attackers each turn means faster quest counters and a bigger ED-E draw payoff.
  • Artifacts — Colorless identity pushes an artifact-matters shell of rocks, constructs, and Eldrazi.
  • Aristocrats — Sacrificing ED-E and token bodies pairs with colorless sac-value engines and recursion.
  • Eldrazi Ramp — Artifact mana fuels giant colorless Eldrazi to close once your hand is refueled.
