BuildCard details

The Commander

Haste

{R}{R}{R}: Regenerate Eron.

Guide

Gameplan

Drop Eron the Relentless as an aggressive, hasty 6/4 beater and start swinging immediately, using mono-red's speed to pressure life totals before opponents stabilize. Protect him with the regenerate ability and pile on equipment, auras, and combat tricks to turn him into a recurring threat that grinds the table down. As a budget-friendly mono-red voltron/aggro commander, the plan is simple: hit hard, hit fast, and refill with red's card advantage engines.

Strengths

  • Haste means immediate pressure the turn he lands
  • Built-in regeneration shrugs off most removal that uses destruction
  • Six power closes games quickly and enables commander damage
  • Mono-red is cheap, consistent, and easy to build

Weaknesses

  • Only four toughness dies to most board wipes and burn (regeneration won't save against exile, -X/-X, or sacrifice)
  • No evasion natively, so he's easily chump-blocked
  • Mono-red struggles with card advantage and noncreature interaction
  • Regeneration is mana-intensive (RRR) and ties up your turn

Key Cards

  • Sword of Fire and Ice — Grants protection, evasion-adjacent value, card draw, and burn to make Eron a lethal voltron threat.
  • Embercleave — Cheap to cast off Eron's swing and immediately adds double strike for 12 commander damage.
  • Lightning Greaves — Adds hexproof to dodge targeted removal, complementing his innate haste.
  • Rogue's Passage — Pushes Eron through for unblockable commander-damage kills.
  • Sundial of the Infinite — Lets you keep tokens and effects while supporting tempo plays in a fast red shell.
  • Hammer of Nazahn — Indestructibility plus free equip turns Eron into a resilient, hard-hitting threat.

Upgrade Path

Lean into voltron with premium equipment (the Swords, Embercleave, Hammer of Nazahn) plus protection like Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots, and add evasion via Rogue's Passage and Whispersilk Cloak so regeneration isn't your only defense. Improve mana with fast rocks and Sol Ring, and add red card advantage like Wheel of Misfortune, Outpost Siege, and Faithless Looting to refuel. Cap it with burn finishers and a haymaker like Combat Celebrant or Aggravated Assault for extra-combat kills.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Connect with an equipped Eron for 21 commander damage
  • ▸Overwhelm the table with mono-red aggro before they stabilize
  • ▸Finish stalled boards with burn spells to the face

Archetypes

  • Voltron — His high power and regeneration make him an ideal carrier for equipment and auras aimed at commander-damage kills.
  • Aggro — Haste and six power let him lead a fast, low-curve mono-red beatdown plan.
  • Stax/Pressure — A resilient hasty threat pairs well with red's tax and chaos pieces to punish slower decks.
