: Counter target spell.
Ertai turns every spell your opponents cast into a potential dead spell, taxing the table with a repeatable counter for and a tap. You play a mono-blue control/stax shell that protects Ertai, develops mana to fire the ability multiple times per turn cycle, and grinds the game until a slow inevitability—usually a big finisher or mill—takes over.
Prioritize untap enablers (Seedborn Muse, Thousand-Year Elixir, Wilderness Reclamation) and cost reducers (Training Grounds, Heartstone) so Ertai counters multiple spells per cycle. Add cheap protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, Mother of Runes effects via Sword of Feast and Famine isn't blue—use counterspell backup instead) and fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, mana rocks) to keep activation mana open. Tighten the win toward a compact combo like Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal or Bruvac mill so the control shell has a clean finish.
