The Commander

Flash

Whenever Evelyn or another Vampire you control enters, exile the top card of each player's library with a collection counter on it.

Once each turn, you may play a card from exile with a collection counter on it if it was exiled by an ability you controlled, and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast it.

Guide

Gameplan

Flood the board with Vampires to repeatedly trigger Evelyn, exiling the top card of every library and stockpiling a multicolor 'shared' library you alone can plunder. You win by out-resourcing the table on raw card advantage, casting opponents' best cards with any color of mana, and turning a wide Vampire board into lethal damage or a value engine. Each turn you flash in threats, sculpt the top of libraries, and play one card per turn from the exile pile.

Strengths

  • Massive, color-flexible card advantage that pulls from all four opponents' decks
  • Vampire tribal is deep across Grixis, giving cheap recurring triggers
  • Flash lets you ambush, hold up interaction, and play on opponents' turns
  • Mana can be spent as any color for exiled cards, smoothing splashes and bombs

Weaknesses

  • Heavily commander-dependent; Evelyn dying repeatedly grinds the engine to a halt
  • Only one exiled card per turn limits how fast you convert advantage
  • Doesn't directly close games—needs a real win condition beyond value
  • Vulnerable to graveyard/exile hate, board wipes, and flicker-resistant removal

Key Cards

  • Anowon, the Ruin Thief — Another Vampire that draws cards on combat damage, doubling down on the card-advantage plan.
  • Captivating Vampire — Anthem plus Vampire tribal payoff that can steal creatures and pump your wide board toward lethal.
  • Champion of Dusk — Refills your hand based on Vampire count, fueling more triggers and threats.
  • Door of Destinies — Snowballs your Vampire-heavy board into a fast clock for combat wins.
  • Mirror Box — Lets you ignore the legend rule and adds anthem effects, but mainly enables copying Evelyn triggers.
  • Panharmonicon — Doubles Evelyn's ETB-style trigger so every Vampire exiles two cards from each library.

Upgrade Path

Add ways to retrigger and protect Evelyn—Conjurer's Closet, Teleportation Circle, and protection like Lightning Greaves keep the engine online. Stack ETB-doublers (Panharmonicon) and effects that let you play multiple exiled cards or extra cards from exile to break the once-per-turn ceiling. Then commit to a focused finisher (Aristocrats drain or a Vampire overrun) so your overwhelming card advantage actually closes games rather than just stalling.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Wide Vampire board buffed by anthems swinging for lethal combat damage
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via Blood Artist effects and repeated sacrifices
  • ▸Casting opponents' best bombs and game-enders off the exile pile to overwhelm the table
  • ▸Generic Grixis finishers like Torment of Hailfire or extra-combat haymakers

Archetypes

  • Vampire Tribal — Every Vampire entering retriggers Evelyn, so a dense Vampire roster maximizes the exile engine.
  • Value/Goodstuff Midrange — Evelyn turns the entire table's libraries into your card pool, letting you grind incremental advantage.
  • Aristocrats — Grixis Vampires pair naturally with sac outlets and drain effects to convert a wide board into damage.
  • Theft/Chaos — Playing opponents' exiled cards is inherently a steal strategy you can lean into with extra exile and replay effects.
