BuildCard details

The Commander

Flying

When Ezrim enters, investigate twice. (To investigate, create a Clue token. It's an artifact with "{2}, Sacrifice this token: Draw a card.")

{1}, Sacrifice an artifact: Ezrim gains your choice of vigilance, lifelink, or hexproof until end of turn.

Guide

Gameplan

Ezrim is a value engine and a resilient threat: it enters making two Clues and turns any artifact (especially Clues) into protection, evasion, or lifegain on demand. You grind card advantage through artifact and Clue synergies, protect your key pieces with hexproof, and either ride Ezrim as an evasive beater or assemble an artifact/token engine to take over the game. Turn to turn you crack Clues for cards, sac fodder to keep Ezrim alive, and build incremental advantage in UW control or artifacts.

Strengths

  • Built-in card advantage and protection make Ezrim self-sufficient and hard to remove cleanly.
  • Loves sacrifice and 'artifact dies/enters' triggers, enabling deep value engines.
  • Flying lifelink hexproof body is a credible Voltron-style finisher that dodges targeted removal.
  • UW gives access to the format's best counterspells, board wipes, and stax pieces.

Weaknesses

  • The hexproof ability only protects Ezrim, not the rest of your board, so wraths and edicts hurt.
  • Sacrificing artifacts for protection costs mana and resources every turn it's needed.
  • Lacks built-in ramp; UW can be slow to set up and color-light on big mana.
  • Clue draw is mana-intensive, so it can be card advantage that's awkward to actually deploy.

Key Cards

  • Academy Manufactor — Triples Ezrim's Clue output into Treasures and Food, supercharging both draw and sacrifice fodder.
  • Reckoner Bankbuster — A repeatable Clue/Treasure engine that feeds Ezrim's protection ability and refills your hand.
  • Sai, Master Thopterist — Turns your artifact and token glut into a flying army while drawing off sacrifices.
  • Lonis, Cryptozoologist — Doubles down on Clue and investigate synergies, converting them into a creature payoff and more cards.
  • Smothering Tithe — Generates Treasures that double as protection fodder and ramp for Ezrim's color-hungry shell.
  • Teferi's Protection — Covers Ezrim's biggest weakness by shielding the whole board, not just the commander.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and Treasure makers (Smothering Tithe, Sol Ring, signets) to offset UW's slow start, then layer Clue and token multipliers like Academy Manufactor and Lonis for explosive value. Include catch-all protection (Teferi's Protection, Heroic Intervention's white analog Flawless Maneuver) to cover the board Ezrim can't, and tighten the wrath suite so you can reset while your commander survives. For a higher ceiling, lean into an artifact combo finish such as Time Sieve loops or a Sai-fueled aristocrats kill.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Commander damage from an evasive, protected, lifelinking Ezrim.
  • ▸Going wide with Thopter/token producers like Sai and beating down through the air.
  • ▸Grinding the table out of cards with Clue engines and Academy Manufactor value, then closing with artifacts.
  • ▸Stax/control lock plus an artifact-fueled finisher or extra-turn engine.

Archetypes

  • Artifacts — Ezrim makes and consumes artifacts, anchoring a UW artifact value and synergy deck.
  • Control — UW counters and wraths plus Ezrim's recurring card advantage let you grind out the table.
  • Voltron — Self-granting flying, lifelink, and hexproof make Ezrim a resilient commander-damage threat.
  • Aristocrats — Sacrificing artifacts and tokens pairs with payoffs that reward repeated sacrifice triggers.
