BuildCard details

The Commander

Flash

When Garna enters, return to your hand all creature cards in your graveyard that were put there from anywhere this turn.

Other creatures you control have haste.

Guide

Gameplan

Garna turns your sacrifice outlets and combat trades into card advantage by recurring everything that died this turn when she enters, while also handing your whole team haste. You play a Rakdos aristocrats/sacrifice game—dump bodies, sacrifice them for value, then flash in or recast Garna to reload your hand and immediately swing or sacrifice again.

Strengths

  • Recurs all creatures that died this turn at once, generating massive card advantage with mass sacrifice or wraths
  • Grants the whole board haste, making reanimation and token swarms attack the turn they arrive
  • Flash lets her ambush block or dodge sorcery-speed removal and reset value on your end step
  • Excellent payoff in aristocrats shells that already want creatures dying

Weaknesses

  • Only returns creatures that died THIS turn—prior graveyard fodder is left behind
  • Returns to hand, not the battlefield, so you must re-pay mana to deploy them
  • Five-mana commander that does nothing the turn she dies unless you have sacrifice synergies online
  • Vulnerable to graveyard hate that exiles creatures before her trigger resolves
  • BR lacks strong noncombat protection and ramp compared to other color pairs

Key Cards

  • Mayhem Devil — Pings opponents every time a permanent is sacrificed, turning your sac loops into a damage win.
  • Blood Artist — Drains the table for each creature death, converting Garna's recursion engine into life loss.
  • Goblin Bombardment — Free sacrifice outlet that lets you fling your whole board before flashing Garna to get them all back.
  • Pitiless Plunderer — Generates Treasure on each death, helping you recast all the creatures Garna returns.
  • Grave Pact — Forces opponents to sacrifice whenever your creatures die, which you do freely with Garna recursion.
  • Dockside Extortionist — Provides explosive Treasure ramp to recast a hand full of returned creatures in one turn.

Upgrade Path

Add free or repeatable sacrifice outlets (Goblin Bombardment, Carrion Feeder, Viscera Seer) and a critical mass of death payoffs to convert Garna's recursion into inevitable drain. Boost ramp with Treasure makers (Dockside Extortionist, Pitiless Plunderer, Jeska's Will) so you can dump returned hands in a single turn, and tighten the curve toward a dedicated combo like Mayhem Devil plus a sacrifice loop for a faster, more reliable kill.

  • ▸Mayhem Devil pinging the table out through repeated sacrifices

  • ▸Big reanimated threats attacking the turn they hit the battlefield thanks to haste

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — Garna recurs sacrificed creatures so you can loop them through death triggers for repeatable drain.
  • Reanimator — Haste lets reanimated fatties attack immediately, and Garna recovers creatures discarded or milled this turn.
  • Tokens — Wide haste boards swing in for damage and provide endless sacrifice fodder.
  • Combo — Free sac outlets plus death-payoffs like Mayhem Devil and a recursion loop enable sacrifice-based kills.
