Mana value6Rank#7,935
BuildCard details

The Commander

Intimidate (This creature can't be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or creatures that share a color with it.)

{X}{B}: Put target artifact or creature card with mana value X from an opponent's graveyard onto the battlefield under your control tapped. Then that player mills X cards.

Guide

Gameplan

Geth is a mono-black graveyard-control commander: fill opponents' yards (or wait for them to do it), then pay {X}{B} to reanimate their best artifacts and creatures under your control while milling them further. You grind out value every turn, hijacking removal-magnets and big threats, and eventually overwhelm the table with stolen bodies or close with a reanimated bomb.

Strengths

  • Repeatable, instant-speed-adjacent value engine that turns opponents' best cards into your own without card investment
  • Color-fixed mono-black gives access to the deck's best tutors, ramp, and recursion
  • Mill component eventually decks opponents out or feeds your own grave strategies
  • Intimidate makes Geth himself a sneaky source of commander damage in mono-color pods

Weaknesses

  • Reliant on opponents having good targets in their graveyards—graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Leyline of the Void) shuts him off entirely
  • Six mana and his ability is mana-hungry; needs lots of ramp to activate meaningfully
  • Mono-black means no counterspells or blue card draw to protect the engine
  • Slow to close games on its own without a payoff—pure value can stall

Key Cards

  • Cabal Coffers — Generates the massive black mana needed to repeatedly fuel large X activations.
  • Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx — Another mana doubler that lets you reanimate multiple high-value targets in a turn.
  • Bojuka Bog — Doubles as graveyard interaction, but note you want opponents' yards full—use selectively against combo decks.
  • Liliana, Dreadhorde General — Provides card advantage and removal while you grind, plugging mono-black's draw gap.
  • Crypt Incursion — Lifegain and grave control; illustrates the kind of mill/fill synergies black offers Geth.
  • Bolas's Citadel — Lets you cast off the top to keep pace, fueling the mana-hungry engine.

Upgrade Path

Lean hard into mana acceleration—add Nirkana Revenant, Crypt Ghast, Magus of the Coffers, and Black Market Connections to enable huge X values. Include self-mill enablers and reanimation backups (Reanimate, Animate Dead, Victimize) so you're not solely dependent on opponents filling their yards, plus targeted grave fillers like Hymn-style discard. Finally, add protection and a faster clock—Sword of Feast and Famine, Whip of Erebos, or Liliana of the Dark Realms—so your stolen value actually converts to wins.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Reanimating a critical mass of opponents' best creatures and swinging for lethal
  • ▸Milling opponents out over a long grindy game
  • ▸Commander damage via Geth's intimidate plus pump or evasion enablers
  • ▸Stealing and assembling combo pieces (e.g., a reanimated game-ending artifact or creature)

Archetypes

  • Reanimator — Geth's core ability reanimates opponents' creatures and artifacts directly to your battlefield.
  • Mill — Each activation mills the targeted opponent, supporting a secondary deck-out plan.
  • Control — Stealing removal-bait threats and grinding value lets Geth play a long attrition game.
  • Theft — The deck is built around taking and using opponents' best permanents from their graveyards.
