The Commander

{T}, Tap X untapped artifacts you control: Look at the top X cards of your library. Put one of those cards into your hand and the rest into your graveyard.

Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)

Guide

Gameplan

Glacian turns a wide board of artifacts—especially Powerstone tokens and mana rocks—into a repeatable card-selection engine, tapping X artifacts to dig X deep and stock your graveyard. You ramp out artifacts and Powerstones early, then dump cards into the yard to enable reanimation/recursion or simply out-value the table while assembling an artifact-based combo or big payoff. With Partner, you pair Glacian with a second commander to add a color or a more aggressive plan.

Strengths

  • Powerful repeatable card advantage and selection that scales with your artifact count
  • Self-mill enabling graveyard recursion, reanimation, and 'cards in graveyard' payoffs
  • Partner gives flexible color access and deckbuilding redundancy
  • Synergizes perfectly with Powerstone token generators and untap effects
  • Mono-blue base means access to the best counterspells and protection

Weaknesses

  • Tapping artifacts competes directly with using them for mana or other abilities
  • Glacian costs 6 and does nothing the turn he lands without artifacts ready
  • Vulnerable to artifact wipes (Vandalblast, Bane of Progress) that gut the engine
  • Mono-blue (without a partner) lacks removal and graveyard recursion in-color
  • Telegraphs intent and can draw heavy hate as an artifact deck

Key Cards

  • The Antiquities War — Animates all your artifacts as huge creatures, turning your engine pieces into a lethal board.
  • Unwinding Clock — Untaps all artifacts each turn so you can use them for mana AND fuel Glacian's ability.
  • Voltaic Construct — With a mana-positive rock it untaps Glacian and his fuel for repeated digs in a turn.
  • Karn, the Great Creator — Makes Powerstone tokens and tutors artifacts to keep Glacian's engine fed.
  • Urza, Lord High Artificer — Turns artifacts into mana and provides a powerful artificer payoff alongside Glacian.
  • Mystic Forge — Plays off the top of your library, complementing the self-mill and card flow.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana and Powerstone generators (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Karn, the Great Creator, The Mightstone and Weakstone) to come online faster, and pick an efficient Partner—Tymna for cards, Kraum or a black partner for recursion/reanimation. Tighten the deck around an untap engine (Unwinding Clock, Voltaic Construct, Clock of Omens) for explosive turns, and include a clean win like Thassa's Oracle to capitalize on the self-mill. Finally, run strong artifact protection and counterspells to defend the engine from sweepers.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Animate your artifact army with The Antiquities War or March of the Machines and swing
  • ▸Mill yourself out and win via Thassa's Oracle / Laboratory Maniac
  • ▸Assemble infinite mana through untap loops and pump an X-spell or commander damage
  • ▸Out-value the table with card advantage and close with a Blue Sun's Zenith or partner's threat

Archetypes

  • Artifacts (Big Mana) — Glacian rewards flooding the board with rocks and Powerstones, converting them into cards.
  • Self-Mill / Reanimator — Binning cards with each activation fills the yard for recursion and reanimation payoffs (best with a black partner).
  • Combo — Untap loops with artifacts and Glacian can mill your whole deck or assemble infinite mana for a finisher.
  • Control — Mono-blue counters plus relentless card advantage lets you grind opponents into the dirt.

Combos

  • Glacian, Powerstone Engineer + Approach of the Second Sun
