The Commander

Reach

The Allagan Eye — Whenever one or more other creatures and/or artifacts you control die, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn.

Guide

Gameplan

G'raha Tia turns mono-white's weakness—card advantage—into a strength by drawing a card each turn other creatures or artifacts you control die. Flood the board with tokens and cheap creatures, then sacrifice or trade them to keep refueling while you grind the table down with anthems, recursion, and incremental value.

Strengths

  • Steady card advantage in mono-white, a color starved for draw
  • Pairs with any sacrifice outlet to guarantee a card every single turn
  • Cheap to recast and resilient as a value engine
  • Synergizes with the many strong white token and aristocrat pieces

Weaknesses

  • Trigger is capped at once per turn, so it won't explosively refill your hand
  • Mono-white lacks ramp, fast mana, and tutors compared to other colors
  • Removal-light: struggles to interact with combo decks at high tables
  • Relies on creatures/artifacts actually dying, so a board wipe can leave you empty

Key Cards

  • Skullclamp — Turns dead 1-toughness tokens into a card-draw chain that also ticks G'raha's trigger.
  • Ashnod's Altar — Free sacrifice outlet to reliably trigger the draw each turn while ramping you.
  • Bennie Bracks, Zoologist — Stacks more white card draw alongside a token strategy that feeds G'raha.
  • Elspeth, Sun's Champion — Generates a stream of tokens to sacrifice and a board wipe finisher that triggers the draw.
  • Anointed Procession — Doubles your token output, deepening the fodder pool for sacrifice and draws.

Upgrade Path

Add efficient sacrifice outlets (Viscera Seer, Phyrexian Tower, Goblin Bombardment) so the trigger is never wasted, and lean on token doublers plus aristocrat payoffs like Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat. Improve mono-white's ramp with Smothering Tithe, Sol Ring, and mana rocks, and add board protection like Teferi's Protection and recursion such as Sun Titan to make the engine resilient.

Archetypes

  • Aristocrats — Sacrificing creatures triggers G'raha's draw and pairs with drain effects to close games.
  • Tokens — Wide boards provide endless cheap fodder to die and refuel your hand.
  • Go-Wide Anthems — Token swarms backed by anthems let you both attack and sacrifice for value.
  • Blink/Sacrifice Value — Recursion and reanimation reuse death triggers turn after turn.
