BuildCard details

The Commander

When Iname enters, you may search your library for any number of Spirit cards, put them into your graveyard, then shuffle.

Guide

Gameplan

Cast Iname to dump a pile of Spirits straight into your graveyard, then mass-reanimate them for explosive value. You build a mono-black Spirit tribal engine that grinds the table out with recursion, drains, and sacrifice synergies until you overwhelm everyone.

Strengths

  • Free self-mill/tutoring on cast fills your graveyard for reanimation
  • Mono-black gives access to the best reanimation and tutor package
  • Spirit tribal has a deep, flexible card pool for value and disruption
  • Iname is recastable, so the graveyard-stocking effect repeats after wipes

Weaknesses

  • Heavily reliant on the graveyard—vulnerable to Rest in Peace, Bojuka Bog, etc.
  • Mono-black means no counterspells and limited interaction with artifacts/enchantments
  • Iname does nothing on its own; needs a payoff to convert milled Spirits
  • Six mana and reanimation costs make it mana-hungry and slow to start

Key Cards

  • Patriarch's Bidding — Mass-reanimates every Spirit you milled with Iname in one explosive turn.
  • Living Death — Wipes the board then returns your graveyard full of Spirits for a massive swing.
  • Victimize — Cheaply reanimates two Spirits at once, leveraging the loaded graveyard.
  • Iname, as One — The white-black sibling enables an infinite combo by exiling Iname, Death Aspect to fetch Spirits repeatedly.
  • Reaper from the Abyss — A recurring Spirit that forces sacrifices each turn, grinding down opponents.

Upgrade Path

Add fast mana (Dark Ritual, Cabal Coffers, Nykthos) to power out Iname and reanimation earlier, and tutors like Demonic Tutor and Diabolic Intent to assemble combos. Build toward the Iname, as One infinite loop with a free sac outlet (Phyrexian Altar, Ashnod's Altar) and a drain piece (Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat). Include graveyard protection and recursion redundancy so a single hate piece doesn't shut you down.

Core Cards

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.

Win Conditions

  • ▸Mass reanimation followed by an alpha strike with reanimated Spirits
  • ▸Aristocrats drain via repeated Spirit sacrifice and recursion
  • ▸Infinite combo loop with Iname, as One plus a sac outlet and drain payoff
  • ▸Grinding the table out with recurring threats like Reaper from the Abyss

Archetypes

  • Reanimator — Iname self-mills Spirits then mass-reanimation spells bring them all back at once.
  • Tribal — Spirit creature type unlocks lords and synergy payoffs in mono-black.
  • Aristocrats — Recurring Spirits feed sacrifice outlets for repeatable drains and value.
  • Combo — Pairing with Iname, as One enables infinite Spirit recursion loops.
